The Pink Lady Lost Ancestors Page
This is my lost ancestors page. They are the ones that suddenly appear and then mysteriously disappear from the pages of our family histories. They leave no forwarding address and any trail of them has long grown cold. They are the ones who leave us baffled and very frustrated. We check every known spelling of their last name and some we make up, we pour over census records in every surrounding state, we even follow their children to see if they are with them. We never find any sign of death records, so we wonder if they are still out there, waiting to be found. If you happen to see any of these lost ancestors, please contact their family, we miss them.
Daniel J. McBride
He is my GG Grandfather. He was born 13 Jan 1848 in Tennessee. On the 1920 Census, he listed both his parents born in Tennessee. On 18 Oct 1869 in Henry Co., TN, Daniel married a M. F. Taylor. In December 1872, Daniel is listed as a bondsman for E. C. Mohundro's marriage to Eliza Hill. In 1870, Daniel was living in Dresden, Weakley Co., TN with his wife. They had a son Shannon McBride on 29 Jan 1871. Daniel's wife must have died before 1874, because Daniel remarried on 19 July 1874 to Sarah A. "Sallie" McSwayne(McSwain) in Henry Co., TN. According to the Henry County Tennessee Marriages Volume Three 1868-1880, E. C. Mohundro was the bondsman for their wedding. They had three known children. Daisy Shelly McBride Byars was born in 1877, Lula L. McBride Butler was born in 1881 and son Isaac Walker McBride was born in 1886. Daniel and his family were on the Henry Co., TN Census in 1880, 1900, 1910 & 1920. He was on the Henry Co., TN 1890 Tax List. Daniel's wife died in 1929 and was buried at Conyersville Cemetery, Puryear, Henry Co., TN. There is no tombstone. In her obituary and on her death certificate, Sarah is listed as a widow. However, Daniel does not have a tombstone at Conyersville Cemetery, he was not listed in any funeral home directory and he does not have a Tennessee death certificate for the years 1918-1930.
Martha Jane Rich
She is my GG grandmother. According to her death certificate, Martha Jane was born 23 Dec 1844. Her father is listed as Jake Rich of Alabama and her mother is listed as Elizabeth Keel(very hard to read) also of Alabama. On 4, August 1865, she had son William Jackson Rich. His death certificate lists both parents as unknown. On 3 July 1882, Martha Jane had another son John Robert"Pete" Rich. His death certificate lists his parents as John Rich and Martha Jane McWheeler (very hard to read, could be McWhorter). On 18 April 1885 in Marshall Co., TN, William Jackson Rich married the girl-next-door, Martha Ann Allen, daughter of James T. Allen and Mary Stevens Allen. Sometime late 1887 or early 1888, William traveled by covered wagon from around Shelbyville, TN to Huntingdon, TN where his wagon broke down. His wife and 4 month old twin daughters traveled by train and joined him. At some point before the 1900 Carroll Co, TN Census was taken, Martha Jane Rich and her son John Robert "Pete" Rich moved to Carroll Co, TN and were boarding with the Allens. She stayed in their household until they died in 1918. She died 4 April 1929 and was buried at the Rich Cemetery on Sunny Slope Hill, Huntingdon, Carroll Co., TN.
The following that has been compiled about Martha Jane Rich is basically from census records. I believe her father was Jacob Rich born about 1807 in North Carolina. He married probably for the second time Ann on 18 Aug 1843 in Rutherford Co, TN. Jacob was found on the Williamson Co, TN Census in 1840 and 1850. He was on the Bedford Co., TN Census in 1860 and 1870.
On the 1850 Census, Jacob age 32 is listed with Ann Rich age 35 from Virginia. They are listed with several children-Catharine Rich(21) born in Alabama, Elizabeth Rich(19) also born in Alabama, Robert Rich(17) born in Tennessee, Sully(Sally) C. Rich(15), Granville Rich(13, Eliza Rich(11),and twin daughters Jane Rich(9) and Mary Rich(9).
Sometime before 1860, Ann had probably died and Jacob had remarried. He married Malinda "Linda", who had a son George Nichols from a previous marriage. Jacob and Malinda had a son Thomas Rich. On the 1860 Bedford Co., TN Census, Jacob(53) is with Malinda(29), Mary and Jane(15), Thomas(1) and G. W. Nichols(6). On the 1870 Bedford Co, TN Census, there is a Rick family. It consists of Jacb Rick, Linda, Jane, George, Thomas and William. Since these are the same first names and a really similar last name, they are probably the same family. On the 1880 Bedford Co, TN Census, Martha Rich is listed as single and 35 years old. She is living with her son William Jackson Rich(14),her younger brother Thomas Rich, and her stepmother Malinda. They are living next to her son's future wife and her parents.
