(John M. Crockett, cousin of the famous Davy Crockett, came to Dallas from TN in 1846 with a land grant from Peters Colony. He practiced law in Dallas, was elected Mayor in 1857 & 1859 & was acting Mayor throughout the War between the States. He was Lt. Governor from 1861-1863, State Representative from 1853-1859, & Worshipful Master of Tannehill Lodge in 1854. Crockett Street was named for him.)
