William P. Martin (William P. Martin was born & reared in GA. As a young man, he came to Dallas for his health & was Junior Warden of St. Matthew's when it was a Parish. Having no relatives in Dallas, he was buried on this lot belonging to his church.) Louis Armistead Shumate Rev. Silas Deane Davenport & Helen Deane Davenport (The Rev. Silas Davenport was the first Dean of St. Matthews. He was born in NC, educated for the ministry, & soon after he was ordained as an Episcopal Minister, he came to Dallas . He was a Chaplain in the Confederate Army during the War between the States. Coming to Dallas in 1868, he remained here until his death. The daughter & the grandson of Rev. Davenport are buried on this lot.) Rev. George Rottenstein (No stone-The Rev. George Rottenstein came to Dallas early in 1856 as an Episcopal missionary & founded St. Matthew's Parish, serving as the first Rector of the Episcopal faith in Dallas . He performed many marriages among the French colonists in 1856-1857. He was sent to LA, but returned to Dallas in 1867, dying soon after his return.) |
