Thomas HAY born about 1769 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia married Elizabeth HALEY on October 22, 1789 in Charlotte County, Virginia. Thomas Hay died somewhere between 1830 and 1840 in Russell County, Virginia. There are five known children to the couple.

  1. John Wesley born about 1793 in Virginia. He married Elzenia Selfe on September 30, 1822.

  2. Elizabeth was born about 1797 in Virginia. She married Burwell Self, brother to Elzenia.

  3. Ambrose was born about 1799 in Virginia. He married Judith Hall.

  4. James A. was born 1801 in Virginia. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson.

  5. William was born in 1898 in Virginia. He married Mary_____.

 

John Wesley HAY and Elzenia SELFE had five known children.

  1. unknown named child born about 1824.

  2. unknown named child born about 1825.

  3. Sally (Sarah?) born about 1829 in Russell County, Virginia. She married John Phillips.

  4. Ambrose Wilson born July 30, 1830 in Russell County, Virginia. He married Phoebe Counts about 1850 in Russell County.

  5. John Wesley born November 29, 1831 in Russell County, Virginia. He married Rachel Counts(Phoebe's sister) on October 5, 1855 in Russell County. He died between 1915 and 1918 in Lincoln County, WV.

 

Ambrose Wilson HAY died on March 2, 1904. He and Phoebe COUNTS HAY had 12 children.

  1. Harriet born on October 15, 1852. She married Josiah Wood.

  2. John born in 1855. He married Nancy J. Turner on February 20, 1877.

  3. Didame was born 1858. She married Joseph Counts.

  4. Sarah "Sally" was born August 2, 1860. She married Brice Hamilton Edwards in 1875 in Buchanan County, Virginia. Sally died January 11, 1945.

  5. Rebecca born October 28, 1862. She married first Charles A. Willis on April 8, 1892 in Dickenson County, Virginia. She later married George Courtney.

  6. Ambrose Wilson "Wilson" born July 6, 1865. He married Elizabeth Counts.

  7. Elmira or Elvina born January 27, 1868. She married Almareen Owens on November 15, 1888. Almareen Owens had first married Mary Anne "Polly" Edwards(daughter of A.J. and Crissie--see Edwards page).

  8. Rachel Audella born January 27, 1868. She married John B. Turner.

  9. 9. Wiley Bunyan born June 24, 1870. He married Arizona Powers.

  10. Canara Lundy born January 24, 1873.

  11. Christopher Columbus "Columbus" born July 19, 1875. He married Emma Colley.

  12. Memphis Major born March 16, 1877. He married Mary Catherine Deel.

 

Christopher Columbus HAY married Emma Elizabeth COLLEY on December 28, 1896 in Dickenson County, Virginia. Emma was born in 1878. She died three days after the birth of her youngest daughter named for her. Columbus and Emma had five children.

  1. Virgie Lee born Decmeber 23, 1989. On November 7, 1918, she married Sparriel Fitchue Potter. Virgie died on March 20, 1950.
  2. Julia was born September 12, 1901. She married Curtis Yates.
  3. Margie Alice was born May 22, 1904 at Tivis, South of the Mountain, Dickenson County, Virginia. She married Arthur Edwards. Margie died October 28, 1974.
  4. Tivis was born April 1, 1909. He married Maxie Stanley. Tivis died July 25, 1952.
  5. Emma Burns was born December 18, 1910. She married Stephen A. Rose. She was reared by Columbus's sister Rebecca Willis.

 

Margie HAY married Arthur EDWARDS. They had 16 children.

  1. Alonzo born July 21, 1921 in Dickenson County, Virginia. He married Mary Agnes NEAL on June 7, 1949. Alonzo died on October 26, 1970.

  2. Walter Lester born February 15, 1923 at South of the Mountain, Dickenson County, Virginia. He married Pearl ANDERSON on October 25, 1946. Lester died on July 4, 1966.
