The Grigg/Gregg Surname DNA Project ( including the variants Greig, Grig & Gregor/MacGregor)

The Grigg Surname DNA Project aims to establish lines of ancestry amongst Grigg researchers. This includes variants of the Grigg surname as well as the MacGregor surname. As many Grigg researchers will know, there is much speculation about Grigg families being descended from the Scottish Clan of MacGregor & hopefully this project will help prove or disprove this. It should also help find any connections with the various Grigg families across England (the Cornwall Grigg's, the Worcestershire Grigg's, the Essex Grigg's, etc) & America's Grigg families. The more people that participate in this project, the more information can be obtained & added to the database. The DNA tests use various Y-chromosome markers passed on from father to son relatively unchanged & can therefore establish links going back many generations.

*Also known as DYS 394

**On 5/19/2003, these values were adjusted down by 1 point because of a change in Lab nomenclature.

***A value of “0” for any marker indicates that the lab reported a null value or no result for this marker. All cases of this nature are retested multiple times by the lab to confirm their accuracy. Mutations causing null values are infrequent, but are passed on to offspring just like other mutations, so related male lineages such as a father and son would likely share any null values.
