* Joseph, Agnes and their first three children emigrated to Australia on board the 'LA HOGUE':- Departed England Arrived Australia 21 Oct 1878
* Joseph's brother Samuel was also on board.
* Baby Agnes (child 3) died on arrival whilst in quarantine. * Joseph's younger brother James arrived in Australia in 1883 on board the 'RIALTO'. His body was found in the bush at Tamworth in 1894. Two inconclusive inquests were held.
* Joseph Dumbleton died after jumping from Watkins Bridge into Cockle Creek following an argument with his housekeeper Agnes Manderson. Two passers-by heard him say "I'm going to do it" before he jumped. They tried to rescue him but were not quick enough. An inquest was held at the 'Jones Hotel', Boolaroo and a verdict of death by suicide was recorded.
* Joseph's brother Samuel was killed in a mining accident at Wallsend the following year (1901).
