1873: On May 12, 55 year-old Anthony McHugh and his 50 year-old wife, Anne, arrived in New York, aboard the Batavia [see image below]. They were accompanied by 20 year-old daughter Ellen, 14 year-old son Michael, 11 year-old daughter Anne, and 9 year-old daughter Honor. The other children must have arrived separately.

1880 Census: 65 year-old Anthony McHugh, 59 year-old wife Anne, and 17 year-old daughter Anne lived on 16th Street in West Scranton, next door to their daughter Catherine and her husband, Thomas McHugh, and very near their daughter Dora and her husband, John Reap.

The Death of Anthony McHugh, an old resident of this side, occurred yesterday morning at his home, 1518 Luzerne street. Deceased was well known here, possessed numerous commendable qualities and was esteemed by a large legion of friends. He came to this country from Ireland twenty-four years ago and has since resided here. Six daughters survive him, Mrs. Thomas McHugh, Mrs. William Barrett, Mrs. John Reap, Mrs. Thomas Stone, and Mrs. Michael McHugh, all of this city. He was the father of the late Patrick McHugh, and his age is about 88 years.
