Deceased Name: Vernon P. Barling
Vernon P. Barling, 62, of R.R. 4, Bloomington, died at 2:50 p.m. yesterday
(Dec. 25, 1989) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington. Mr. Barling, an
account executive in retail advertising, had been with The Pantagraph for more
than 38 years.
He was taken to Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington.

The Funeral Of Vernon P. Barling, 62, of R.R. 4, Bloomington, a Pantagraph
retail advertising account executive, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at
Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, Bloomington.
The Rev. David Dees will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial
Cemetery, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home. Mr. Barling,
whose hobbies were camping and working around his home, died at 2:50 p.m.
Monday (Dec. 25, 1989) at Heritage Manor-Bloomington after a 10-month illness.
He was born April 25, 1927, in Bloomington, a son of Phillip W. and Matilda L.
Kersten Barling. His father was a longtime Bloomington florist. He married
Judith Rengel Feb. 10, 1962, in Normal. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Gary R., 1406 S. Roosevelt St., Bloomington,
and Bruce P., rural Danvers; three daughters, Amy J. Barling, Towanda; and
Elizabeth A. Barling and Jennifer M. Barling, twins, at home; and three
grandchildren.
Mr. Barling was educated at Abraham Lincoln Grade School and Bloomington High
School and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1950 with a degree in
business administration.
He started at The Pantagraph Feb. 5, 1951, as a schedule clerk in national
advertising. He became a display advertising salesman in 1955. Four years after
he started at the newspaper he received the Ideal Pantagrapher Award. He was
the youngest person ever to receive the newspaper's honor award.
A member of the Bloomington-Normal Advertising & Marketing Club, he had served
as club secretary and was honored for outstanding and dedicated service to the
club.
He served in the Army Signal Corps from July 1945 through January 1947,
including 10 months in Germany with the occupation forces. He was a member of
Bloomington's Louis E. Davis American Legion post.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Madeline Lott

Madeline M. Lott, 61, of 17 Oak Valley Road, Hilltop Mobile Homes, Bloomington,
a prize-winning seamstress, died at 4:51 a.m. yesterday (Oct. 28, 1986) at her
home. She had been ill.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church,
Bloomington, the Rev. Richard Bennett officiating. Entombment will be in Park
Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home,
Bloomington.

Mrs. Lott was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Bloomington, a daughter of Fred T. and
Lottie E. Sayers Barling. She married Donald C. Lott on Nov. 16, 1941, in
Bloomington. He survives.

Other survivors include one son, Gerald W., Somerset, N.J.: two brothers, Fred
W. Barling, 1018 McGregor St., Bloomington, and Kenneth W. Barling, 1703
Longden St., Bloomington; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Lott won blue ribbons at the Illinois State Fair for her sewing and
knitting projects.

She was a member of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and its altar Guild. She
had served for several years on the door staff of the American Passion Play and
was a member of the Brokaw Hospital Service League.

Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Passion Play.

great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She had been an employee of Funks Seed Co. She was a member of St. Matthew's
