Siegfried wurde am 17.02.1865 in einem uns nicht bekannten Ort geboren. Die

Siegfried Schick wurde am 03.12.1941von Wien nach Riga deportiert. Der Todesort
von Siegfried ist bis jetzt noch nicht festgestellt worden. Verstorben am

Barbara Kintaert wrote: "The reason why I am writing you is, that I am living
in the same house in which Dr. Siegfried Schick and his wife Thekla Jerusalem
used to live. Thekla Schick-Jerusalem died in 1929. Dr. Siegfried Schick
continued to live in the appartment, Servitengasse 6/10 in (A-1090) Vienna
(Austria). His older daughter was Anna (called Maria or Mizzi ?) Jarosch, born
Oct. 12th 1900, as I found out. She had a daughter, Eva, born on April 25th
1931 with her (second) husband, Alois Jarosch. When the nazis came, they were
getting divorced. Anna (Mizzi?) moved in with her old father and sent her
daughter to the Netherlands on Febr. 20th 1939. Annas younger sister Auguste
had also lived in her fathers appartement, together with her husband, Dr.
Heinrich Huescher, yet both managed to flee into exile
soon. They possibly moved to the United States of America.

Once Anna Jarosch was divorced, she and her father were forced to move out of
their appartement and move into a so-called "Sammelwohnung", Berggasse 25/28
(A-1090 Vienna). After only 6 weeks, Anna Jarosch was deported to Poland. Yet
three months later, she moved into the same "Sammelwohnung"
again with her father. Does this mean, that she managed to flee from Poland and
somehow get back to Vienna?
>From Febr. 8th 1940 until Dec. 23rd 1940, she lived, with her father again, in
Berggasse 25/28 (with many more people). Then she apparently moved to GRAZ?"

Nahezu alle Lexika setzen die Emigration Jerusalems nach Argentinien erst um
1929 an - tats�chlich d�rft sie bereits fast zwanzig Jahre zuvor erfolgt sein.
K�rschners Literatur-Kalender verzeichnet sie 1910 als in Wien VI.,
Gumpendorferstra�e 92 wohnhaft, 1911 in IX., Thurngasse 159 (wobei in der
Taufmatrik des selben Jahrs XVIII., Hasenauerstra�e 43 angegeben wurde) und in
den Jahren von 1912 bis 1914 als "zur Zeit in S�damerika"; ab 1915 steht nur
mehr "Widakowich, Buenos Aires" 23. Mit der 1903 in Herman Clemens Kosels
Schriftsteller-Lexikons angef�hrten Adresse IX., Eisengasse 28 sind uns allein
vier verschiedene Aufenthaltsorte Else Jerusalems in Wien bekannt, man beachte
dazu noch die Geburt des Sohnes im selben Jahr in Prag.
Der Zeitpunkt des �bertritts zum evangelischen Glauben f�llt vermutlich in das
Jahr der Emigration. Ein zweites Mal geehelicht war sie laut Sekund�rliteratur
bereits das Jahr zuvor geworden - eine Annahme, die mit Vorsicht zu genie�en
ist, da im Jahr 1911 diesbez�glich nichts in den Matriken vermerkt wurde.
Vielmehr w�re anzunehmen, dass die Eheschlie�ung 1911 erfolgte, und zwar nach
der Konversion. Noch 1910 war Else Jerusalmes "Die Angst der Geschlechter"

Am 25. J�nner 1911 lie� sich "Elsa Jerusalem geb. Kotanyi, Private" in der
evangelischen Pfarrkanzlei W�hring auf Grund der Austrittserkl�rung vom
Magistratischen Bezirksamt XVIII vom 1. J�nner 1911 und des Geburtsscheines der
israelitischen Cultusgemeinde Wien I vom 30. Mai 1881 bzw. des Trauscheines vom
30. Juli 1901 taufen. Die Taufmatrik in der Dorotheergasse gibt das
Geburtsdatum mit 23. November 1876, als den Ort der Geburt "Wien XIX.
OberD�bling Herreng 27" und als momentane Wohnadresse die Hasenauerstra�e 43 im
XVIII. Wiener Gemeindebezirk an. Als Eltern sind Max Kotanyi, Kaufmann, und
Henriette, geborene Deutsch, angef�hrt, beide israelitischen Glaubens. Als Pate
steht der Schriftsteller Dr. Franz Servaes, wohnhaft in Weidlingau,
Laudonstra�e 26. Die Pfarrkanzlei W�hring f�hrt noch den Zusatz "ger. gesch.".
Im Geburtenbuch der Israelitischen Kultusgemeinde ist bei Elsa Kotanyi
folgender Eintrag zu finden: "Der Zuname dieses Kindes und seines Vaters lautet
richtig Kotnyi" - nach Erlass der nieder�sterreichischen k.k. Statthalterei vom
10. M�rz 1900. Das k�nnte auf eine �nderung des Familiennamens um die
Jahrhundertwende schlie�en lassen und w�rde der Aussage, nach der Elsa
Jerusalem eine geborene Kotanyi sei, widersprechen. Falls jedoch der
Namenswechsel vor der Geburt 1876 erfolgte, w�rde der Vermerk von 1900 als
Korrektur f�r eine irrt�mliche Ver�nderung des Namens Kotnyi stehen. Durch den
Vermerk wird auch best�tigt, dass Elsa Kotanyi am 23. J�nner 1911 aus dem
Judentum ausgetreten sei. Der Vater Max Kotanyi wird als Kaufmann aus dem
ungarischen Szegedin angef�hrt.

Die Sekund�rliteratur ist sich �ber den Werde- und Bildungsgang Elsa Kotnyis
weitgehend einig: Aus einer gutb�rgerlichen Familie stammend "absolvirte [sie]
die B�rgerschule und Fortbildungscurse" 10 und meldete sich "nach eigenen
Angaben" 11 mit 16 Jahren als au�erordentliche H�rerin f�r Philosophie und
Deutsche Literatur an der Universit�t Wien an - gerade um das Jahr 1897, in dem
das philosophische Institut als erstes �berhaupt in �sterreich ordentliche
H�rerinnen zulie�, und es ist zumindest anzunehmen, dass sie mit Elise Richter
in gleichen Vortr�gen sa�. Nach vier Jahren Studium war sie fortan als
Vortragsk�nstlerin und Schriftstellerin t�tig und sorgte bald mit
emanzipatorischen Werken f�r einige Aufmerksamkeit. Bereits mit 22 Jahren
ver�ffentlichte sie im November 1899 die brisante, sich mit Prostitution
besch�ftigende Novellensammlung "Venus am Kreuz", 1902 die "Kom�die der Sinne"
(3. Auflage 1905). "Unter ihren Vortr�gen erregte der auch als Brosch�re
erschienene 'Gebt uns Wahrheit', ein Beitrag zu unserer Erziehung zur Ehe
(1902, neue Ausgabe 1903) ganz besondere Aufmerksamkeit, weil sie darin alle
Verirrungen und Verzerrungen der Frauenemanzipation zu erkl�ren versucht." 12
Im Jahr 1901 heiratete sie den Fabrikanten oder Psychologen 13 Alfred Jerusalem
in Wien und nahm den Namen an, den sie wohl aus Gr�nden der Bekanntheit auch
nach der Scheidung beibehielt und mit dem sie in der Fachliteratur bis heute
verzeichnet ist (sowie mit dem Vornamen Else) - der Gatte hingegen legte sich
nach der Trennung den Namen Alfred Jansen zu. 14 Aus der Ehe gingen eine
Tochter und ein Sohn hervor, die nach der Scheidung beim Vater blieben 15; eine
Internetseite, die sich mit Stammb�umen der Jerusalems besch�ftigt, gibt �ber
die Familie an: "Alfred Jerusalem/*12.03.1874 Drenice Haus 81/+23.04.1945
Florida USA/Else Kotanyi/*23.11.1877 Wien/+ABT 1942/oo 29.07.1901
Vienna/children: Edith and Fritz Albert" 16. Edith wurde dieser Quelle nach
1902 in Wien geboren, heiratete, nahm den Namen Stein an und starb am 13.
September 1987 in Wien. 1938 soll sie wie die Mutter ebenfalls nach Argentinien
emigriert sein. 17 Fritz Albert, am 26. 12. 1903 in Prag geboren, heiratete
1930 in Wien und starb am 11. April 1955 auf Sarawak in Malaysia. Details kann
erneut Eva Borst anf�hren: "Der Sohn Jerusalems war der Arzt und Publizist
Fritz Jensen. Er war u.a. als Auslandskorrespondent f�r die 'Volksstimme' und
'Neues Deutschland' t�tig." 18
Nach der gescheiterten Ehe ging Else Jerusalem um 1910 ein zweites B�ndnis mit
dem "Dozenten Dr. Victor Widakowich, Professor an der Universit�t zu Buenos
Aires" 19, ein. Ein Jahr zuvor war im S. Fischer Verlag der Roman "Der heilige
Skarab�us" erschienen, der zu ihrem bedeutendsten und erfolgreichsten Werk
wurde: Die komplexe, beinahe 700 Seiten lange Geschichte der in einem Bordell
geborenen Milada verkaufte sich insgesamt 40.000 Mal, davon allein die H�lfte
im ersten Jahr nach der Erscheinung; 1911 erfolgte bereits die 22., 1926 die
40. Auflage. 1932 erschien das Buch in den USA unter dem Titel "The Red House",
1933 kam es in Deutschland auf die "Liste 1 des sch�dlichen und unerw�nschten
Schrifttums". 20 Der Amsel Verlags legte 1954 eine Neuauflage in �berarbeiteter
und gek�rzter Fassung vor.

Das Buch hatte eine ungeh�rige Wirkung auf die zeitgen�ssischen Leserinnen und
vor allem Leser. 21 Inwieweit es nun geh�ssige Reaktionen auf das Buch waren,
die sie zu der folgenden Auswanderung trieben, oder ob es an Victor Widakowichs
Lehrbeauftragung lag, l�sst sich heute schwerlich bestimmen. 22 Nahezu alle
Lexika setzen die Emigration Jerusalems nach Argentinien erst um 1929 an -
tats�chlich d�rft sie bereits fast zwanzig Jahre zuvor erfolgt sein. K�rschners
Literatur-Kalender verzeichnet sie 1910 als in Wien VI., Gumpendorferstra�e 92
wohnhaft, 1911 in IX., Thurngasse 159 (wobei in der Taufmatrik des selben Jahrs
XVIII., Hasenauerstra�e 43 angegeben wurde) und in den Jahren von 1912 bis 1914
als "zur Zeit in S�damerika"; ab 1915 steht nur mehr "Widakowich, Buenos Aires"
23. Mit der 1903 in Herman Clemens Kosels Schriftsteller-Lexikons angef�hrten
Adresse IX., Eisengasse 28 sind uns allein vier verschiedene Aufenthaltsorte
Else Jerusalems in Wien bekannt, man beachte dazu noch die Geburt des Sohnes im
selben Jahr in Prag.
Der Zeitpunkt des �bertritts zum evangelischen Glauben f�llt vermutlich in das
Jahr der Emigration. Ein zweites Mal geehelicht war sie laut Sekund�rliteratur
bereits das Jahr zuvor geworden - eine Annahme, die mit Vorsicht zu genie�en
ist, da im Jahr 1911 diesbez�glich nichts in den Matriken vermerkt wurde.
Vielmehr w�re anzunehmen, dass die Eheschlie�ung 1911 erfolgte, und zwar nach
der Konversion. Noch 1910 war Else Jerusalmes "Die Angst der Geschlechter"
ver�ffentlicht worden. "[B]ei zwei nachgewiesenen Europaaufenthalten hielt sie
Vortr�ge und versuchte, einen Verleger f�r neue Texte zu finden." 24 Das erst
1928/29 entstandene n�chste bekannte Werk, das Drama "Steinigung in Sakya. Ein
Schauspiel in drei Akten", wurde in Erfurt aufgef�hrt. 1939 erschienen die
theologisch-philosophischen Gedanken "Die Dreieinigkeit der menschlichen
Grundkr�fte". Ab 1941 verlieren sich die Spuren Else Jerusalems in Argentinien,
das Sterbedatum ist nicht bekannt. Von einer Interpretation zu Else Jerusalems
Werk will ich an dieser Stelle absehen - hier sei nur auf die bereits erw�hnten
Arbeiten von Eva Borst und Julia Neissl sowie auf Brigitte Spreitzers
"Texturen" verwiesen. Ab den 80er Jahren hat sich die Forschung wieder an Else
Jerusalem als eine der Protagonistinnen in der b�rgerlichen Frauenbewegung um
1900 erinnert, eine umfassende Darstellung ist jedoch bis heute ausgeblieben.
Dass sie auch Kontakte zu zeitgen�ssischen Schriftstellern hatte, beweist
allein die Tatsache, dass Franz Servaes als Taufpate zur Seite stand.
Trotz der Namens�nderung von Kojeteiner in Kotanyi scheint eine Bekanntschaft
mit dem bekannten Gew�rzhersteller �brigens durchwegs m�glich: Schlie�lich
wurde der Gr�nder der Firma Janos Kotanyi 1858 wie der Vater Else Jerusalems im
ungarischen Szeged geboren, wo er auch seine erste Paprikam�hle gr�ndete.

Fritz JERUSALEM, geb. am 26. Dezember 1903 in Prag/B�hmen [Praha/Tschechien],
hatte am 8. November 1929 an der Medizinischen Fakult�t der Universit�t Wien
den Grad eines Dr. med. erworben. 1940 wurde ihm der Grad aus rassistischen
Gr�nden aberkannt, da er im Nationalsozialismus 'als Jude als eines
akademischen Grades einer deutschen Hochschule unw�rdig' galt.
Erst 68 Jahre nach der Aberkennung und sehr lange nach dem Ende des
Nationalsozialismus wurde ihm der Doktorgrad 2008 wieder zuerkannt, bzw. die

Death.
Yesterday morning the retired Central Inspector of the Bohemian Northern
Railways, engineer Markus Fuchs, died in the 68th year of his life. The
deceased, a well known personality in the widest circles, was not only engaged
in an eminent way, as an expert on railway matters, but took also a lively part
in German organisations in Prague.
He was born on the 12th February 1838 in the district of Smichov, Prague. He
finished his studies at the Realschule (secondary modern) and onto the
Polytechnic in Prague and was thereafter active as an engineer at
'Trassierungen' in Switzerland and France. In 1865 he began the building of
the Turnau-Kralup railway and was in charge of the building of the section
Munchen-Gratz-Turnau. After completion of the section he came to Kralup to
become station and section master and in 1873 he became section chief in
Prague. But within a few months he was called to the management, where he
worked at first in the traffic department, later on in the workshop and
train-promotion service. After the retirement of the Imperial Counsellor
Director Schlueter, he became chief of this department and in this capacity was
promoted to the position of Central Inspector. He retired in 1903.
Engineer Fuchs was extremely active in technical scientific matters and has
contributed to numerous technical scientific journals. He also possessed
patents for two carriage brakes and automatic couplings (clutches). With
particular predilection he occupied himself with the study of mathematics and
particularly number systematology. The results of these researches have been
published in three booklets.
As mentioned before, Engineer Fuchs was for many years engaged in a tireless
and meritorious activity with the life of German societies and organisations in
Prague. For many years he was a member of the executive committee of the
German Craftsmen organisation and the organisation for the German school
system. He was a member of the press committee of the German polytechnical
society. For many years he was deputy representative of the German Spring
Festival in Prague. He was also a member of Prague's civic health council.
The funeral of the departed will take place tomorrow, Friday the 2nd of
February at 2.30 afternoon from the house of mourning (Leihamtsgasse 4).

Information from ARIJSKY BOJ, VI(7), 17 Feb 1945:From 1894 member of freemason
lodge. He was founding member of the Prague lodges "Praga" and "Humanitas", 3
times president of the lodge "Bohemia", and finally vice-president of grand
lodge. c. 1869 took over Drenice estates after eldersister died. Rented estate
at Velen from ca 1875-1924. After marriage rented Gbely and Satalice. Then
exchanged house at Satalice for estate of Letnany near Prague.
Information from Bnai Brith Jg. 5 Nr 5 Mai 1926: "In Memoriam.
Grossvizepr�sident Leopold Jerusalem".: besuchte er das (damals deutsche)
Gymnasium in Leitomischl...(tchechische) Ackerbauschule in Chrudim.Nachdem er
sich auf dem v�terlichen Gute die notwendigen praktischen Kenntnisse angeiignet
hatte, �bernahm er im Alter von 20 Jahren, nachdem seine �ltere Schwester und
deren Gatte jung gestorben waren, deren Hofpachtung Kohl-Pribram bei Jenikau.
Nach wenigen Jahren gab er dies Pachtung auf und pachtete den Meierhof Velen
bei Cakowitz, den er durch nahezu 50 Jahre (bis zur Bodenreform 1924)
bewirtshaftete. Dort verm�hlte er sich im Jahre 1878 mit Frau Camilla geb.
Beykowsky. Der Ehe entsprossen f�nf T�chter, eine starb als Kind.
Im Jahre 1887 pachtete er noch die Meierh�fe Gbell und Satalitz dazu und
verlegte seinen Wohnsitz navch Gbell, ein Jahr sp�ter siedelte er, seinen
heranwachsenden Kindern wegen, f�r die Wintermonate nach Prag �ber.
Gbell bewirtshaftete er bis zum Jahre 1911, von da an verbrachtete er den
Sommer wieder in Velen. Den Hof Satalitz tauschte er sp�ter gegen die Pachtung
Letnan aus, deren Gesch�fte er bis an sein Lebensende selbst f�hrte.

1938 they moved to Palestine (which in 1948 became Israel). In Ramat-Gan near
Tel Aviv they opened a pen factory ("Katab") with money they managed to smuggle
out of Austria. The factory was closed in 1958 after the introduction of the
Ball Point Pen which a competing company produced in Israel. In 1956 they
returned to Austria, and in 1958 moved to Locarno, Switzerland.

Am 10. April 1920 wurde das neue Altarbild in der Friedhofskapelle,
die dem Hl. Kreuz gewidmet wurde, feierlich seiner Bestimmung �bergeben. Das
Bild wurde von der K�nstlerin Maria Radio de Radiis geb. Freudenfels, die auf
Schloss Baslan gelebt und 1941 im Tschermser Friedhof ihre letzte Ruhe gefunden
hat, gemalt und gestiftet.

Karl Radio de Radiis wurde am 12. Juli 1916 als Sohn eines Ingenieurs und
Industriellen in Wien geboren. Nach der Matura in M�nchen widmete er sich
kaufm�nnischen und technischen Studien in Wien. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg
leitete er mit Hilfe des Marshallplans den Wiederaufbau des
Familienunternehmens,
der Oesterreichischen Saurer Werke. Als sp�terer Generaldirektor und
Alleininhaber
f�hrte er die Saurer Werke zu einem international anerkannten Unternehmen f�r
qualitativ hochstehende Lastwagen und Busse. Er verkaufte seine Firma 1959.
Dann wurden Malen und Zeichnen sein Lebensinhalt. Er nahm Unterricht bei Jo von
Kalkreuth in M�nchen. Es folgten zahlreiche Reisen nach Indien, Pakistan,
Kambodscha, Thailand und Indonesien. Als Maler geh�rt er der gegenst�ndlichen
Richtung an: "Er malt innerhalb der nat�rlichen Farbskala, er steht Bonnard
n�her als
Matisse, einem Pissarro n�her als etwa Vlaminck", schreibt einer seiner
Kritiker. Bald
stellten sich erste Erfolge ein mit vielbeachteten Ausstellungen, u.a. in Wien,
M�nchen, Florenz, Atlanta, Los Angeles. Sein fr�her Tod in Januar 1983 hat ihn
unvermittelt aus seinem sch�pferischen Schaffen herausgerissen.

Gerda Lerner (April 30, 1920 - January 2, 2013) was a historian, author and
teacher. She was a professor emeritus of history at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison and a visiting scholar at Duke University.
Lerner was one of the founders of the field of women's history, and was a
former president of the Organization of American Historians. She played a key
role in the development of women's history curricula. She taught what is
considered to be the first women's history course in the world at the New
School for Social Research in 1963. She was also involved in the development of
similar programs at Long Island University (1965-1967), at Sarah Lawrence
College from 1968 to 1979 (where she established the nation's first Women's
History graduate program), at Columbia University (where she was a co-founder
of the Seminar on Women), and since 1980 as Robinson Edwards Professor of
History at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
She also wrote the screenplay for her husband Carl Lerner's film Black Like Me
(1966).
Lerner was born Gerda Hedwig Kronstein in Vienna, Austria, on April 30, 1920,
the first child of Ilona (ne Neumann) and Robert Kronstein, an affluent Jewish
couple. Her father was a pharmacist, her mother an artist. Following the
Anschluss, Kronstein joined the anti-Nazi resistance, and spent six weeks,
including her eighteenth birthday, in an Austrian jail.[1] Her family was able
to escape from Austria; Kronstein, with the help of a young socialist lover,
Bobby Jensen,[2] immigrated to the United States in 1939.

When Lerner first moved to New York, she worked as a waitress, salesperson,
office clerk, and x-ray technician, all the while writing fiction and poetry;
she published two short stories providing a first-person account of the Nazi
occupation. After her divorce from Jensen, she met and married Carl Lerner, a
young theater director who was active with the Communist Party USA (CPUSA).[3]
In the 1940s she was active in the Congress of American Women (CAW, a women's
group concerned with economic and social issues), helping to found the Los
Angeles chapter in 1946. In 1951, she collaborated with poet Eve Merriam on a
musical, The Singing of Women. Her novel, No Farewell, appeared in 1955; with
her husband, she wrote the script for Black Like Me. Committed Communists, the
Lerners were involved in numerous grassroots activities involving trade
unionism, civil rights, and anti-militarism; they struggled against
McCarthyism, especially the Hollywood blacklist.
Lerner returned to school in the late 1950s, in her 40s, earning an A.B. from
the New School for Social Research in 1963, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Columbia
University in 1965 and 1966 respectively; her dissertation became her first
publication, The Grimke Sisters from South Carolina: Rebels Against Slavery
(1967). In 1966, Lerner became a founding member of the National Organization
for Women; she was a local and national leader in the organization for a short
period. In 1968 she became a professor at Sarah Lawrence College. In 1972 she
started there the first program to offer a graduate degree in women's history
(a master's degree program.) She also taught at Long Island University in
Brooklyn. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Lerner published numerous books and
articles to help further the recognition of women's history as a field of
study. Her article "The Lady and the Mill Girl" (1969) was an early and
influential example of class analysis in women's history. In 1979, she chaired
The Women's History Institute at Sarah Lawrence College, a fifteen-day
conference (July 13-29), co-sponsored by Sarah Lawrence, the Women's Action
Alliance and the Smithsonian Institution, which was attended by the national
leaders of organizations for women and girls. When the participants learned
about the success of the Sonoma County's Women's History Week celebration, they
decided to initiate similar celebrations within their own organizations,
communities, and school districts. They also agreed to support an effort to
secure a "National Women's History Week." [4] [5] This all helped lead to the
later celebration of Women's History Month. [6] [7]
In 1980, Lerner created the nation's first Ph.D. program in women's history, at
the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she later became professor
emerita. From 1981 to 1982 she served as president of the Organization of
American Historians.[8][9] As an educational director for the organization, she
helped make women's history accessible to leaders of women's organizations and
high school teachers.[10] The Organization of American Historians named the
Gerda Lerner-Ann Scott Prize for the best women's history dissertation in her
honor. In 1986 Lerner won the American Historical Association's Joan Kelly
Prize in recognition of her work on the roots of women's oppression.
Lerner was among the first to bring a consciously feminist lens to the study of
history, producing influential essays and books. Among her most important works
are the documentary anthologies, Black Women in White America (1972) and The
Female Experience (1976), the essay collections, The Majority Finds Its Past
(1979) and Why History Matters (1997), The Creation of Patriarchy (1986), and
The Creation of Feminist Consciousness (1993). She published Fireweed: A
Political Autobiography in 2002.

Fireweed: A Political Autobiography (2003) is her detailed documentation of her
years from childhood to 1958 when she first began her studies at the New School
for Social Research in New York. She writes about her time in Vienna where she
suffered anti-Semitism, imprisonment, deportation, immigration, and McCarthyism
along with her strained relationship with her mother. She recalls in Beginnings
starvation and imprisonment in Austria and her family's survival, due in part
to the fact that her father had opened a branch of the family business in
Liechtenstein, where he stayed. Her mother moved to France, and Lerner's sister
relocated to Israel. She came to the United States at the age of eighteen under
the sponsorship of the family of the young man she would marry. The marriage
failed, and she survived as a typical immigrant, working for minimum wage. She
met Carl, and they both obtained divorces in Reno so that they could marry each
other, then moved from New York to Hollywood, where Carl's career in film
blossomed. For her works Lerner has received many awards including the Bruce
Catton Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Historical Writing of the Society of
American Historians, and the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Special
Book Award.
