Davis Burroughs and his family
came to Polk County from Cassville, Cass (later changed to
Bartow) County, Ga. in 1851. Burroughs bought several thousand acres
of the Daniel Wilburn
League near the Colita Community in the Louisiana Settlement of families.
Davis Burroughs was
married twice and his first wife was buried in Georgia. Her name is
unknown. His second marriage
was to Nancy C. Godfry. The cemetery was located near the family residence.
