The Kibbie Field Cemetery, also known as the
Kibbie Cemetery, was created in the early
1920's by several black families in the Oakdale community area. It
is a very large cemetery in
size surrounded by a chain-link fence on the road side and a wire fence
on the other three sides.
There are many graves with unreadable tin funeral home markers and
some graves with
concrete slabs but no names on the slabs. The only cemetery sign is
the road entrance sign on a
pole provided by the Polk County road maintenance department which
states
"Kibbie Field Cemetery".
Location: From Livingston take U. S. Highway 59 north for 4.9
miles to the intersection with
the Oakdale Loop. Turn right on the Oakdale Loop road and travel 1.5
miles (past the Oakdale
Cemetery). The Kibbie Field Cemetery is located on the right side of
the road.
