The April 5, 1906 edition of the Polk County Enterprise:
"Moscow, Texas, April 4---On the 3rd inst.
Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Canon celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They
had with them their four sons and two daughters, namely: A. S. Canon of
Lovelady, Dr. R. T. Canon of Laurelia, B. M. Canon of Stamps, Arkansas,
Dr. M. B. Canon of Benford, Mrs. J. W. Leggett and Miss Nettie Canon of
this place and also a number of grandchildren and other relatives....

From the Historical Files in the Polk County Memorial Museum:
Dr. John Jobe Canon died on Sep. 6, 1910 and
his wife, Mary R. "Polly" Smith Canon, died on Jun. 4, 1920. Both died
at the home of a son living in Jacksonville, Cherokee County, Texas.
They are buried at the Moscow Cemetery, Moscow, Texas. The Canon's had
nine children, but only six lived to their parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
