J. H. Gulley
"J. H. Gulley, aged 80 years, died Saturday about noon
at his late home, two miles east of Lufkin, after a lingering illness for
the past year . The funeral are being held this afternoon at Hortense
Cemetery in Polk County, about 18 miles east of Livingston, where are buried
others of his relatives, and in which community he resided before removing
to this section of the state. W. M. Glenn & Co. are directing
the funeral, the body being conveyed overland, leaving here this morning
at 11 o'clock. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. W. A. D.
Wardsworth, pastor of the Baptist Church at Livingston. Deceased was born
in Alabama March 17, 1846, and is survived by his widow and several children,
one of whom being Mrs. A. C. Harrison of Lufkin. Deceased was prominent
in Polk County before his health failed, and he was active in the local
affairs of his community. He was a Confederate veteran and highly esteemed
by all who knew him."
