Mrs. Bettie Alexander Guild, one of the most prominent and highly respected residents of Gallatin and Sumner County, died at her home near town on Woods Ferry Pike Sunday afternoon. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. I. Nash of the Presbyterian Church and Rev. H. B. Blue of the Methodist Church. Burial followed at the Gallatin Cemetery. The deceased was born on April 29th, 1848 and was the daughter of the late William Alexander of Dixon Springs, who came to Sumner County in 1869. Mrs. Guild was the oldest resident on the Woods Ferry Pike. Her husband, Walter Guild, who died a number of years ago, was a son of the Judge Joseph C. Guild, a notable Tennessee figure in his day. She is survived by two sons, L. C. Guild of Gallatin and with whom she made her home, and W. A. Guild of Nashville. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Fields of Greenwich, Connecticut and six grandchildren. Mrs. Guild had been a lifelong and devoted member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a woman of splendid ideals and enjoyed the highest esteem of the entire community. Her death is deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends.
