Death of Child
Ella Geanette Green, the fourteen months' old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Green, passed away at the home of her parents on the Scottsville Pike last Sunday night at one o'clock. The burial took place Monday afternoon at four o'clock at the Gallatin Cemetery, with services at the grave by Rev. R. H. Hudgins.

Death of Infant
Florence Maurine Perry, twenty-six months' old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Z. T. Perry of Saundersville Road near Shackle Island, died Monday morning, July 9th, of acute indigestion and whooping cough. Remains were laid to rest in family burying ground Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. W. W. Suddarth. The grief stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community.

E. S. Gardner
Prominent Citizen of Sumner County Passes Away Tuesday Afternoon
Edwin Sumner Gardner, son of Elizabeth Plater and Edwin Sumner Gardner, born at Nashville June 6, 1872, passed away at his country place; Avondale, on the Nashville Pike, Tuesday, July 10th, 1917. Mr. Gardner's sudden death came as a distinct shock to his many friends. Although the deceased had been in ill health for some months it was not until Sunday that he was seriously stricken. In early years Mr. Gardner was engaged in the racing business and his stock farm, Avondale, was known throughout the country as the home of many famous thoroughbreds. Besides being engaged in many other business activities, Mr. Gardner at the time of his death, was actively engaged in the wholesale grocery business as the senior member of the firm of Gardner & Co. at Gallatin. Mr. Gardner was married twenty-one years ago to Miss Mary Murphy of Cincinnati, Ohio. The deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. P. Gardner, and by two children, Miss Elizabeth Murphy Gardner and Edwin Sumner, Jr. Mr. Gardner was one of those men shrinking but whole-soled natures whose deeds of kindness and of love were done without show, and whose passing will be distinctly felt by the large circle within which he moved. The burial will take place today (Thursday) at 10 o'clock from the Gardner home at 301 Seventh Avenue, North, Nashville.

In Memoriam
Mrs. Henrietta Conyer died at her home in the Station Camp neighborhood last Saturday morning after a long illness. Mrs. Conyer before her marriage was Henrietta Dempsey. She was 54 years old and had been a Christian for 42 years having joined the Station Camp Baptist Church when a girl. She was married to Thomas Conyer and to this union were born ten children, eight of whom survive. She is also survived by her husband, one sister and three brothers. She was laid to rest in the Old Mitchellville burying ground with services at the grave.

Miss Mattie Pilkinton
Miss Mattie Pilkinton died in Nashville at an infirmary after suffering for several months from a stroke of paralysis. Her remains were taken to Goodletsville where funeral services were held by Rev. Ransom and interment took place in Goodletsville Cemetery. She was 61 years of age and is survived by the following sister and brothers: Mrs. A. Bridges of Nashville, Jas. A. Pilkinton of Gallatin, W. S. Pilkinton and J. B. Pilkinton of Goodletsville and P. C. Pilkinton of Nashville.

Westmoreland
Mrs. Ida Stewart, wife of Joe Stewart, died at her home Saturday, July 7. Her death was due to tuberculosis from which she had suffered for several years. Her remains were taken to Bethpage Sunday for interment. She is survived by her husband and six children. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Joe Moncrief of Westmoreland. Mrs. Stewart was 45 years of age at the time of her death.

In Memoriam
Mrs. Mirtie Lambert, wife of Albert Lambert, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Cline, died June 22, 1917, and was laid to rest at Fairfield the following day. Funeral services were conducted by T. S. Mandrell. The deceased was 27 years of age. She leaves a husband, four children, father, mother, three sisters and one brother. Her suffering was intense, having died of tuberculosis. Oak Grove
Miss Frony Graves, daughter of Robt. Graves of near Pondville, died last Friday of pellegra. She had been ill for several months. Burial the following day at Providence. Funeral services by Rev. Mr. Russell.
Shackle Island
Allen M. Dorris and wife, Medames I. W. Hutchison and W. C. Patton and Miss Bernice Kirkpatrick motored to Hendersonville Sunday to attend the funeral of Mrs. H. H. Hughes.

S. M. Gibson
Samuel Marion Gibson died at his home on the Douglass Pike Sunday afternoon, July 15, 1917, after and illness of several months. The deceased was in his sixty-ninth year, having been born in Virginia in the year 1849. Mr. Gibson removed with his family to this county seven years ago since that time had made his home on the Douglass Pike. Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife and eight children: Mesdames Ellis Jones and Lewis Withers of Gallatin, Mrs. Brinkley of Whitehouse, Geo. Gibson of Philadelphia and Raymond, Archie, Elizabeth and Roony Gibson, all of Gallatin. Funeral services were held at the residence Monday by Rev. H. L. Olmstead. Burial followed at the Gallatin Cemetery.

John M. Smith passed away Monday afternoon, July 16, 1917, at an infirmary in Nashville. For some months prior to his death Mr. Smith had been a valued employee of the Gallatin Milling Company and had won for himself by his loveable disposition a host of friends in Gallatin to whom the news of his untimely death will come as a distinct shock. At the time of his death, Mr. Smith was only 28 years of age. He is survived by his wife, mother, Mrs. W. A. Smith, of Grove Hill, Ala., and the following brothers and sisters: Miss Mary, Walter and Ford Smith, Grove Hill, Ala., Mrs. J. Cohen, Mrs. N. E. Smith, of Mobile, Ala., Mrs. O. S. Williamson, Miss Gertrude and Amos Smith, Detroit, Mich., and Hannis Smith of the First Alabama Regiment now stationed at Montgomery. Funeral services were conducted at the South End M. E. Church, Nashville, Tuesday afternoon by Rev. J. W. Pearson, interment at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah E. Rutledge
Mrs. Sarah E. Rutledge, wife of J. T. Rutledge, died at her home at Cotton Town Tuesday morning, July 24, 1917. Death came suddenly as a result of organic heart trouble. The deceased was 61 years of age. Mrs. Rutledge is survived by her husband and four children as follows: Miss Bulah Rutledge of Cotton Town, Bud Rutledge of Elkton, Ky., Mrs. B. E. Strother of Cotton Town and George Rutledge of Sanger, California. Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday by Rev. Mason of the White House Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Gallatin Cemetery.

Henry H. McClain
Henry H. McClain, father of the late Rufe McClain of Gallatin, died Thursday afternoon July 19, at his home on Trinity Lane in Nashville. At the time of his death Mr. McClain was 77 years of age. He is survived by a son, J. A. McClain, and daughter, Miss Sallie McClain of Nashville, and two sisters, Mrs. M. J. Fields of Nashville and Miss Pauline McLain of Lebanon. Prayers were held at the residence Friday morning by Rev. T. B. Fisher. The interment took place at the Gallatin Cemetery.

Mrs. J. W. Boles
Mrs. J. W. Boles, wife of Sheriff J. W. Boles, passed away Friday, July 20, 1917. Mrs. Boles, who was in her forty-first year at the time of her death, had been in ill health for some months. Mrs. Boles was a daughter of J. R. Brizendine and had resided all her life in Sumner County. She leaves her husband and four children: Ruby, Ruel, James and Billy. The interment took place Saturday at the Gallatin Cemetery with services at the grave by Rev. R. H. Hudgins.
