Mrs. Ella Kerley of  This Place Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Harris Kerley, 83, was held at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Portland Baptist Church. Mrs. Kerley was the widow of J. E. Kerley, founder of Kerley Hardware and Furniture Stores at Portland, Columbia and Lewisburg. Services were conducted by the Rev. B. Frank Collins of Chattanooga; former Pastor of Portland, and Dr. B. Lofton Hudson, pastor here. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. A native of Simpson County, Kentucky. Mrs. Kerley died at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning at the home here of her son,   J. Vernon Kerley. She was a member of the Portland First Baptist Church. Survivors are three sons, Clarence W. Kerley of Columbia, J. Vernon Kerley of Portland, and Chas. E. Kerley of Lewisburg, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
