George Washington Louthan, an aged and estimable citizen of this place, died at his home Wednesday, September the 10th after a severe illness of five days. Mr. Louthan was eighty years of age and had been an invalid for about three years. He was born and reared in the state of Ohio (Harding County), moved to the state of Tennessee (Sumner County) with his family about thirty six years ago. He was a veteran of the federal army of the war between the states. Mr. Louthan became a member of the Methodist Church at this place with the organization of the church some thirty years ago and was always a faithful and consistent member, always in his place at church, and Sunday School until failing health prevented his being present. He was a teacher of the bible class in S. S. for a number of years. In the passing of this man we feel the church has lost a consistent member, the town an esteemed and beloved citizen, one who always held a high standard for right and morality, then children a good and kind father, one whose life is worthy of emulation, his dear wife a most devoted companion. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Three sons, J. M. and A. V. Louthan of Nashville, and C. E. Louthan of this place; and four daughters,Mrs. W. W. Yates of Hamilton, Texas, Mrs. M. L. Barth of Nashville, Mrs. Mose Meador of Macon County, and Mrs. Lester Jenkins of Russellville, Kentucky, and a number of grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at his home Thursday morning by his pastor, Rev. G. E. Poole and Rev. N. B. Taylor, with interment at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
