Wm. Marshall - Dies Suddenly.
Mr. Wm. Marshall who lived two and a half miles south of here died suddenly while on his way home from Fountain Head Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 20th aged 86 years. Mr. Marshall was born in the Eastern part of this State and later removed to Nebraska, to which place his remains will be shipped for interment.
Wm. Marshall was born in Green county, Tennessee, Sept. 18, 1820, moved to Indiana with his parents, where they settled in Howard county, near New London he spent his boyhood days; was educated in the Common Schools and himself taught school one year. He was born and reared a Friend, or Quaker. He married Caroline Lancaster in Boone county, Ind., Sept. 12, 1855, then moved with his father-in-law, Wm. Lancaster, in 1856, and settled on a farm in Bangor Township, Marshall Co., Iowa. In this pioneer home on the Prairies. Wm. Marshall and wife reared a family of. eight children, O. J., Mary E., John E., Olive, Anna, Martha R., William E.. Amanda and Alvesso. The Mother and two girls and one boy having gone to the Promised land now leaves to mourn the father's departure five sons and daughters. Two sons, John E. and O. J. were with him when he calmly passed to the beyond Feb. 20th, 1913. He was a Minister for over 25 years, he made a Missionary tour and helped to organize two or three Mission Stations in Jamaica P. I. about 1880. Two country churches were organized and buildings erected by him in Mills county, Iowa. He also assisted in starting three other churches in Dallas and Cherokee county, Iowa. In 1898 and 1899 he was sent as one of three missionaries to South America, where he visited places in Paraqua, Argentine and Bolivia. His was a life of travel and mingling with the people. His Christian labors extended through ten different states. As a member of the Friends church, he had the sanction of his home meeting as well as the approval of his neighbors. William Marshall's religious membership at the time of his death was with the Bangor Friends church. Bangor, Marshall county, Iowa.
