Geo. Robert Lee Dies; Rites Held
Funeral services for George Robert Lee, 86, of Portland, were held
July 28 at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. A. J. Bunn officiating.
Burial was in the Short's Cemetery. He was a native of Robertson County and
a veteran of the Spanish-American War. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow Azer Lee, one daughter, five sons, one brother,
Martin Lee of Nashville, and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Sahton of Falmouth,
IN, and Mrs. Bessie McClain of Hohenwald, TN.

Mrs. Jones Dies; Rites Held Monday
Funeral services for Mrs. Marion Gertrude Jones, 88, of Portland,
were held Monday, July 29, at the Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial
was in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Rev. B. L. Donthit officiated. She was a
native of Macon County, daughter of Simon A. Carman and Mary Tooley. She
was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include three sons, three
daughters, and one sister, Mrs. M. E. Carman of Portland, TN.
Mrs. Jones Dies; Rites Held In Portland
Funeral services for Mrs. Marion Gertrude Jones, 88, widow of Joseph
Jones, died Saturday at her home in Corinth after a long illness. Funeral
services were held Monday at 2 PM at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home. B.
L. Donthit officiated and burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Jones
was born in Macon County, the daughter of Simon and Mary Tolley Carmon. She
was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors are three sons, three daughters,
and a sister, Mrs. M. E. Carman of Portland, 14 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.

J. L. Spears Dies: Rites At Rock Bridge
Funeral services for James Lonzo Spears, 79, who died Friday at the
home of a son, Johnny Spears of the Dry Fork Creek Community were held Sunday
at Rock Bridge Baptist Church. Rev. Herlon Brown officiated and burial was
in the Church Cemetery. Mr. Spears, a retired farmer, was a native of Allen
County, KY the son of Bill and Sarah Elizabeth Key Spears. He had resided
in Sumner County for 45 years. In addition to his son, he is survived by
two other sons, two daughters, 15 grandchildren, and 14
great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lex Upchurch Dies In Portland
Mrs. Elsie Mae Upchurch, 35, wife of Lex Upchurch, died Wednesday
Aug. 14, in Highland Hospital after undergoing an operation. Funeral services
were held Friday at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home here. Burial was in the
Old Brush Cemetery. Mrs. Upchurch, a resident of Route 1, Fountain Head,
was a life long resident of Sumner County. She was an employee of Sandye
Shirt Company here. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters,
and one son, her parents, Wesley and Maggie Dudney Gregory, Route 1, Fountain
Head, three sisters, and a brother.

Winford Andrews Dies: Rites Held Tuesday Aug. 20
Winford Hester Andrews, 54, truck driver, died Monday at his home
here after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held on Tuesday
at 10 am at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Maple Hill
Cemetery. A native of Smith County, Mr. Andrews had lived here most of his
life. His parents were John and Fannie Robinson Andrews. Survivors include
his widow, Mrs. Clara Dobbs Andrews, two daughters, a son, and four
brothers.

Mrs. J. W. Williams Dies: Rites Held Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. John W. Williams, wife of a Middle Tennessee
educator and minister, were conducted Friday at Marshall - Donnelly - Combs
Funeral Home by Dr. Richard Hall, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Decatur,
GA. Burial was in the Woodlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Williams died Wednesday
night at Rutherford County Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in
an automobile accident near Murfreesboro on Monday. She was 82. Mrs. Williams,
who lived with her son, John W. Williams, Jr., Decatur, GA, was visiting
with relatives in Murfreesboro at the time of the accident. A native of Norene,
TN, she was the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. John T. Oakley. The former
Miss Lilly Mai Oakley, she was married in 1895 to Mr. John W. Williams
of Eagleville, TN, who died in 1951. (Long obit and I have typed only
the genealogical information.) Mrs. Winnie Arnold, her sister-in-law
and Glen Arnold, Jr. her great nephew, who were involved in the accident
with Mrs. Williams, are still in the Rutherford County Hospital. Other survivors
include two daughter, another son, four brothers, Judson Oakley, Hartsville,
Edgar F. Oakley, Old Hickory, John T. Oakley, Lafayette, and Rev. J. H. Oakley,
Memphis, and twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Rites Held For Odell Wix On Wednesday
Funeral services for Odell Wix, 59, of Portland were held Wednesday
at the Hopewell Church in Robertson County. The Rev. Eugene Fleming officiated
and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Wix died at the Highland Hospital
on Monday after a short illness. A native of Sumner County. His parents were
K. D. and Elmira Crawford Wix. Survivors include his widow, Maybelle, three
daughters, and four sons.

Funeral Services Held Yesterday For J. D. Gossett
Funeral services for Jefferson Davis Gossett, 88, resident of Portland
were held yesterday at the Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home here with the Rev.
Eugene Fleming officiating. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Mr. Gossett
died of a heart attack Monday at his daughter's home in Portland. A native
of Sumner County he was the son of Jackson and Mary Appleton Gossett. Survivors
are one daughter, Mrs. J. L. Henson Sr., of Portland, two sons, Jack Gossett
of St. Petersburg, FL, and Herbert Gossett of Portland, five grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rites Held For Bethel Dobbs
Funeral services for Bethel Dobbs, 59, of Nashville were held Tuesday
at the State Line Church. The Rev. Hobert Cook and Gaines Hinton officiated
and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Dobbs died in the General Hospital
in Nashville on Sunday. A native Of Davidson County for many years. His parents
were J. D. and Dixie Jane Dobbs. Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Pauline Sailors
of Indianapolis, IN, four brothers, Tommy Dobbs of Fountain Head, Vernon
Dobbs of Nashville, Fronzy Dobbs of Franklin, KY, and Hubert Dobbs of
Indianapolis.

Mary Richards Price Dies; Rites Held
Funeral services for Mary Richards Price, 71, of Portland, wife of
Joe C. Price were held Sunday at loocyland Church Sunday at Portland Baptist
Church. The Rev. Eugene Fleming officiated and burial was in the Sulphur
Springs Cemetery. A native of Simpson County, KY, she had resided in Sumner
County 15 years. Her parents were Charlie W. and Mary Bradshaw Richards.
She was a member of Portland Baptist Church. Besides her husband, she is
survived by a son, a sister, four brothers, and two grandchildren.

Auto Accident Takes 3 Lives In Midstate
Three persons died in separate Middle Tennessee automobile accidents Sunday.
Jimmy Murphy, 20, of Springfield, TN, who died when a car in which
he was riding crashed into a tree near Springfield. John Henry
Weatherford, 52, Negro of Route 2, Adams, TN, killed when a car overturned
in Montgomery County. George Cooper Fitz Jr., 20, Negro of near
Cottontown, TN, killed when run over by an automobile at Gallatin. (Long
