CLYDE PORTER KILLED IN ITALY

Portland, Tenn. July 6

Mrs. Georgia Porter of Portland received a telegram from the war department yesterday stating that her son, Pvt. Clyde Porter, 23, was killed in action in Italy June 3. Private Porter was a native of Smith County but had lived in this community most of his life. He attended Mitchellville School and entered the army about two years ago. Receiving his training at Camp Maxey, Tenn., and Fort Gilrey, Cal., he was transferred overseas four months ago. He was in the infantry. Three brothers are also in the Service, Sgt. Dennis Porter of the Marines, St. Simons Island, Ga; Sgt. Edward Porter, Army Airforces, Chatham Field, GA., and Sgt. William Porter, Corsica Island. Other survivors are his father, Fletcher Porter of Nashville; a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Hunter and two brothers, Ray and Jimmy Hunter, all of Portland.
