Ruby Barnard Link was b 12 March 1912, d 2 December 2001
Funeral services for Ruby Barnard Link, 89, of Portland, a retired nurse
technician, were held Tuesday at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home in
Portland.
Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery in Portland.
She died Sunday at her home of congestive heart failure after a long illness.
She is survived by two daughters, 2 son in laws, four grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
A native of Sumner County, she was the daughter of F. C. and Genie Searcy
Barnard. She married June 21, 1929, to Samuel Link, who died in 1995.
"My mother was a homemaker until 1970, when she became a nurse technician
at Highland Hospital, later called Tennessee Christian Medical Center-Portland,"
said her daughter. "Until she retired in 1988, she worked primarily
in the nursery taking care of newborns. In a rocker she requested hospital
officials buy for the nursery, she rocked hundreds of babies the first few
days of their lives as only a "Granny" can. She was a lifelong member
of Hollis Chapel General Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
