Mrs. J. W. Swann
Mrs. J. W. Swann, one of Portland's most prominent and beloved women, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. P. Lanier, Wednesday afternoon. She was in her 75th year and death came as a result of a long siege of illness. Mrs. Swann is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lanier, and one son, Mr. Neely Swann, her husband, Rev. J. W. Swann, having died several years ago. She had been a devoted member of the Baptist Church since her girlhood and was indeed a woman of sterling qualities. She had been a resident of Portland for about 18 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. H. Huff and Rev. Warren Payne of Franklin, Ky., Thursday afternoon followed by burial in Portland Cemetery. The Herald joins a host of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones.
