V. E. Smart Laid to Rest in Green Lawn Yesterday

The remains of V. E. Smart, who met death at the hands of A. E. Wilson reached here yesterday and after a short prayer service were laid to rest in Green Lawn Cemetery.

From the best information obtainable, Mr. Smart was on a fishing expedition with two brothers named Wilson, on White River near Rosedale, Miss., when a dispute arose between the men which culminated in the death of Smart, and both of the Wilson brothers.

The dead man, who is a son of Mrs. Mary Tatum, of this place, left six years ago, and has been making his home in the South.  Besides his aged mother, three brothers, Messrs. C. A. Smart, of Ridgely, Tenn., J. W. Smart, of Whitehouse, Tenn., J. M. Smart, of Portland, Tenn., and one sister, Mrs. J. W. Butt, of Portland, Tenn., survive him.

The death of Mr. Smart makes the second Simpson county man to meet a violent death in the South during the past month.

*Note:  Virgil E. Smart was the son of J. M. Smart, Sr. and Mary Jane Summerville. (Will of J. M. Smart).
