Funeral services for Mrs. Clara C. Howell, 78, of Westmoreland, were held at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Westmoreland Friday, January 2, at 1 pm conducted by Bro. James Meadows with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Howell died Thursday, January 1, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Betty Roark Creasy and the wife of Mr. James Albert Howell. Survivors includes one step son, Willie Martin Howell of Westmoreland, five step daughters, Mrs. Charlie Love of Gallatin, Mrs. Annie Lois Johns, Mrs. Charles Mayes, both of Westmoreland, Mrs. Paul Durham of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mrs. Lewis Matthews of Bethpage, Tenn., 12 step-grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren. Mrs. Howell was a member of the Westmoreland First Baptist Church.

Services for Fredrick Joseph Byerley, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Byerley, of Westmoreland were conducted at graveside Friday, December 26, at 3:30 pm in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. Survivors in addition to the parents include paternal grandparent, Mrs. Mary Byerley of Nashville and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick H. Ehrhorn of Miami, Florida; two sisters, Emily and Wendy Byerley, both of Westmoreland.

Funeral services for Mr. George B. Akins, 77 of Westmoreland will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland Wednesday, January 7, 1981 at 11:00am with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Survivors include one son, Mr. A. C. Akins of Westmoreland and two sisters, Mrs. Mandy Robinson and Mrs. Nola Lyles, both of the Siloam Community; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Akins expired Monday, January 5, 1981 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin. He is the son of Wess and Lena Sloam Akins and was married to Mai Carter Akins who died 12 years ago. He was a retired grader operator for the Sumner Co. Highway Department.

Siloam Man Found Dead Tuesday Morning - The body of 85 year old Virgil L. Knight was discovered in a small gulch near his home near Siloam on Tuesday, February 3, at approximately 4:30 pm. *(This is a long article and I have typed only the genealogical information.) The body was found by Genie Akins and Otis Howser, neighbors of the deceased. Knight lived alone in his near rural home. Herbert Knight, nephew of the deceased.

Bethpage Man Found Dead - Willie Tucker, age 81, of Bethpage, was found dead at 8:15 am Saturday, February 7, near his Chipman Road home. *(This is a long article and I have typed only the genealogical information.) "Tucker apparently lived alone."

Amanda Mae Williams Gregory - Funeral services were held Thursday, February 5, for Mrs. Amanda Mae Williams Gregory, age 91. Mrs. Gregory passed away February 1, in Fulton, Ky. The services were held at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Westmoreland, with the Reverend Charles Arnold Davenport officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Gregory is survived by her husband, George Belford Gregory, Sr., one son, George Belford Gregory, Jr.; one daughter, Mrs. Karen Tuscan, all of Highland, Indiana; one grandchild and one great grandchild. *(March 5, 1981 paper has another obit for her.) Amanda Mae Williams Gregory, of Union City, age 91, services at 10:30 am. She was a native of Sumner County, TN.

Local Man Found Dead - The body of 82 year old Robert Thomas Turner was discovered at the water tower on Kelly Boulevard near Westmoreland Elementary School on Friday, February 27, at approximately 5:14 pm, by the Westmoreland Civil Defense. *(I have typed only the genealogical information.) The body was taken to Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home in Portland. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Eulah Ann Bickerstaff Turner, Westmoreland; a son, Bob Turner, Cleveland; two brothers, Melvin Turner, Nashville and Allison Turner, Portland; and a grandchild.

The body of Will T. Farley age 39, Route 3, Bethpage, was found by his father, Tom Farley, at the elder Farley's home in Macon County Sunday, March 8. The incident was reported to the Macon County Sheriff's Office at 2:52 pm and investigated by Jim Hardin, Macon County Deputy Sheriff. *(I have typed only the genealogical information.) Farley's body was later transferred to the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland for burial at the Fairview Cemetery. The funeral services were held Tuesday, March 10 at 2 pm at the Fairview Baptist Church with Brother James Lawson officiating. Farley was born in Macon County. He is the son of Tom Farley and the late Minnie Bell Adcock. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Myrtle Farley of Westmoreland. Other survivors include two sons, David T. Farley, Nashville, and William Thomas Farley, Texas; one step-son, Ray D. Cantrell, Westmoreland; two daughter, Debbie Faye Farley, Nashville, and Donna Kay Farley, Griffin, Ga.; two brothers, O. C. Farley and Melvin Farley of Westmoreland; one step-brother, Will D. Cloter of Lafayette; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Sullivan and Mrs. Carol Oliver of Hartsville; Mrs. Annie Knight and Mrs. Lois Sullivan of Westmoreland; four step-sisters, Mrs. Jewill Steen, Lafayette, Mrs. Helen Patterson, Lafayette, Mrs. Ruby Bartley, Red Boiling Springs, and Mrs. Dorthy Russell, Red Boiling Springs; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Nellie Agnes Phillips Sarvis, 55, died Wednesday, March 4, at approximately 8 am following a brief illness, at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Mrs. Sarvis was born and raised in Westmoreland. She was the daughter of Mize and Kate Phillips of Westmoreland. Burial was in Riverview, Florida, Saturday, March 7. Mrs. Sarvis was married to Don Sarvis. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Davis, and a son, William Phillip Davis; three brothers, Garland Phillips of Florida, Vernon Phillips of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Bobby Phillips of Florida; two sisters, Addie Cannon of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Millie Mae Bentle of Garden Grove, California. She is also survived by three grandchildren.

William Harold Eaton, Route 1, Adolphus, died on arrival at the Allen County Hospital Sunday, March 8. He was 58. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Carter Eaton and one daughter, Judy Eaton, both of Adolphus, one son, Jody Eaton, Scottsville; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Aline Phillips, Adolphus, Mrs. Dorothy Freeman and Mrs. Ruth Green, both of West Florida, Mrs. Opal Pogue, Travelsville, Ind.; and Mrs. Myrtle Dickerson, Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Herman Eaton, Westmoreland, Tn. and Hobart Eaton, Franklin, Ky. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 11 at 11 am with burial in the Carter's Tabernacle Church Cemetery.

Michael Glen Blackwell, age 4 months Route 1, Westmoreland, died Thursday, March 12 at Sumner Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his father, Earnest F. Blackwell and his mother, Patricia Huntsman Blackwell, of Westmoreland. Other survivors include one brother, Tony Dewayne Blackwell, Westmoreland; Maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Huntsman, Westmoreland; Paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Huntsman, Westmoreland. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Saturday, March 14, at Alexander Funeral Home of Westmoreland with burial in New Hope Cemetery.

John Thaxton, Route 1, Adolphus, died Saturday, March 14 after an extended illness, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He was 45. Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Tuesday, March 17, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial at the Patterson Cemetery. Keen was born in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late James F. Thaxton and the late Mary Eliza Casteel. He is survived by his wife, Mary Thaxton. Other survivors include two step sons, Michael Wayne Barnes, Westmoreland; Patrick Earl Dean, Copper Cove, Texas; two daughters, Miss Tammy Mae Thaxton, Adolphus; 2 stepdaughters, Miss Glenda Joyce Dean, Westmoreland; and Miss Tina Marie Dean, Adolphus; one brother, Homer T. Thaxton, LaMirada, California; Three stepsisters, Mrs. Betty Bull, Gallatin; Mrs. Jo Scruggs, Westmoreland; and Mrs. Zadie Cantrell, Houston, Texas; and two step-grandchildren.

Harry Johnson Keen, Route 1, Westmoreland, died Sunday, March 15, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He was 85. Funeral services were held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 17, at the Westmoreland United Methodist Church with burial at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Keen was born in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Ezekiel Keen and the late Aidelia Rippy. He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Keen, Spokane, Washington; and Billy W. Keen, Indianapolis, Indiana. Other survivors include two, half sisters, Kora Yokley, Louisville, Ky.; and Ruth Bruce, Nashville; and six grandchildren.
