Notes for BENJAMIN MUNDEN:

I was just sent this little piece of information entitled The Old Brick House. It begins: "In January 1712, Jeremiah Munden and his wife Mary (the daughter of Thomas Smithson) bought land in Pasquotank Co., N.C.

Thomas was a mariner and sailed the seven seas. In 1727 he married in Constantinople, Turkey a Grecian lady, Ann, and brought her back to his home in Carolina. Jeremiah's son Robert inherited the manor plantation. This he exchanged with Isaac Stokeley for land on which he built the Old Brick House shortly after 1750. He became wealthy and powerful in Pasquotank and the home he built has distinction and interest.

Through the center runs a hall 10 ft. by 30 ft. with two paneled rooms on either side. The paneling and mantles were very beautiful but in 1934 they were sold and so were lost to the state. The original stairs and handrail, part of the floors downstairs, and all above stairs, remain. The paneling and mantles are being replaced by fine examples of the period and the restoration is porceeding with painstaking care. Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Jackson bought the house in 1936.

The Old Brick House was at one time the hideout of Robert Toach, the pirate.

The friend who sent this to me is Nina Morris. She is in a resthome and I believe her maiden name was White. I am going to send her a copy of your Munden name list.
