or his son MATTHAIS, 2 JAYNE built a house in Setauket, Suffolk
Co., L.I., NY which is now known as the SHERWOOD-JAYNE HOUSE, and
belongs to the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities.
There are at least 10 additional homes of the Colonial Victorian era
in Setauket and Stony Brook area that once belonged to JAYNE family
members. MATTHAIS, 1 JAYNE family appears to have had strong Loyalist
leanings. This family members are buried in the Episcopal Church
Cemetery, at Setauket whereas many other JAYNE family members are
buried in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery. REF:# ]#21 pg2.4

the Tory, was "Kidnapped" or "Arrested" depending
on your point of view by ROBERT JAYNE, who headed a posse of JAYNES.
This was not an uncommon occurance during the American Revolutionary
War. "Big Bill" was soon exchanged for a sympathizer of
the Colonies.

Need more Information.
It's been reported that JAMES, 1 JAYNE and family removed to Connecticut
in the early 1700's and changed the spelling of the name to JANES.
This occurence may have led to another large branch of the JAYNE
family who spell the name either JANES or JAYNES. REF:# ]#21 pg2.6
