Henry,2 JAYNE was born two years before the French and Indian War (Europe called 7 Years War), which started around 1756 after French occupied the uncompleted British post called Fort Duquesne (the site of now Pittsburge, PA.). Col. George Washington with his Virginia troops had just clashed with the French at Great Meadows, they dug in at "Fort Necessity", on July 3, 1754.
King George,III - Portriat - Click on Thumbnail for Larger Photo!      Henry,2 JAYNE, was 9 years old when Great Britain, after acquiring Canada from France in 1763, tightened up colonial administration in North America. The 13 colonies, used to self- government, resented duties on commerce and objected to paying for troops now quartered among them. The Sugar Act of 1764 placed duties on lumber, food-stuffs, molasses and rum. The Stamp Act of 1765 required revenue stamps to help defray cost of royal troops.
The colonists formed "Sons of Liberty" groups and rejected British goods. Nine colonies led by New York and Massachusetts at Stamp Act Congress in New York October 7-25 1765, adopted "Declaration of Rights" opposing taxation without representation in Parliament and trial without jury by admiralty courts. In the Virginia House of Burgesses, Patrick Henry warned King GEORGE, III of consequences declaring, "If this be treason make the most of it.*!&@!*&X) Parliament repealed the Stamp Act on Mar. 17, 1766.
The Townshend Act of 1767 levied taxes on glass, painter's lead, paper and tea imports. In 1770 all duties except tax on tea were repealed, but principle of right to tax was maintained. British troops fired into a mob on Mar. 5, 1770 killing 5, this was later called the Boston Massacre. Tea ships of East India Co., were turned back at Boston, New York, Philadelphia in May 1773. Cargo ships burned at Annapolis Oct. 14, and cargo was thrown overboard at Boston Tea Party on Dec. 16, 1773. Parliament ordered ports closed until tea was paid for, and sent 4 regiments to Boston to suppress town meetings and elective representation in Massachusetts. Samuel ADAMS, in Boston, began uniting patriot leaders by the Committees of Correspondence. Virginia called for the first Continental Congress in Philadelphia on Sept. 5 - Oct. 26, 1774.

At Lexington, Mass. the next day 19 Minutemen were killed and 10 were wounded. On the return from Concord the harassed British Lost 270 soldiers. Col. Ethan ALLEN (joined by Col. The Colonials then headed for Bunker Hill, fortified Breed's Hill in Charlestown, Mass., they repulsed British troops under Gen. William HOWE twice before retreating on Jun. 17, 1775, the British casualties were over 1,000; this was called Battle of Bunker Hill.
The Continental Congress on Jun. 15, 1775 named George WASHINGTON as Commander-In-Chief; and he took command in Cambridge on July 3rd.
