he died on 07 Mar. 1910, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 21 days, in 
Sevier Co., Tennessee; A Headstone marks his grave in the Adler 
Branch Cemetery, (Which lists 16 Sep. 1844..prs); 

We also have two dates which state he married at the age of 21 years, on 31 
Dec. 1864 (Based on [REF: #27 or 01 Jan. 1865, Based on [REF: #34 pg584) 
The wedding was officialated by his half-brother the Rev. 
ROBERT S. ATCHLEY, Sevier Co., Tn., to the 17 year old

Miss ELIZABETH or "Esther or Easter" MAPLES; [REF: #27 & [REF: #34 pg584]
  
She was the oldest daughter of the Rev. GIDEON Mc MAPLES and his 1st. wife NANCY J. (RUNYAN) MAPLES; 
ESTHER (MAPLES) ATCHLEY'S father later married her husband sister 
MALISSA C. (ATCHLEY) LOW(E) MAPLES as his 2nd wife. [REF: #34 pg584]

She was born 06 May 1848, Sevier Co., Tn.; [REF: #27 died 23 Nov. 1925, 
at the age of 77 Years, 6 Months and 17 days, Sevier Co., Buried along 
side her husband in the Adler Branch Cemetery;

At the age of 7 yrs. ENOCH, 3 ATCHLEY, attending School, can be 
found listed in the Sevier Co., TN. (26 Sep. 1850) Census (M-432, 
State Reel 895, Pg. 857, F.G. 605) living with his parents and 
8 of his brothers & sisters. His Grandmother LYDIA (RICHARDS) ATCHLEY 
at 88 years old was living with them, she died  54 days later on the 
3rd of Aug. of 1850. His neighbors (F.G.604) was his married half/brother 
BENJAMIN M. ATCHLEY and Wife ROSE "Anna" (MORRIS) ATCHLEY 
and their children were  JESSE, age 4; ISAAC, age 3; MARGARET C., 
age 2 and baby SARAH, who was born in June.

His other neighbor in this 1850 Census (F.G. 606) was his half/sister

JOHN O. ATCHLEY'S father ISAAC ATCHLEY died at the age of 66 years 
(19 Jul. 1854), when he was only 15 years old.

1857 and lived with the Widow MARY (BOWERS) ATCHLEY, the LOW(S) 
had two daughters MEDORA LOW(E), b. 1858 and ABNER C. LOW(E), b. 1863

the family farm, in the 1860 Census for Sevier Co., TN. (M- 653, 
State Reel 1270, Pg. 374, F.G. 699) Daughter MEDORA LOW(E) would 
have been 2 years old was NOT listed?

In 1861, when the Civil War broke out, ENOCH, 3 ATCHLEY, was 17 
years old, but did NOT go off to War. He stayed at home with the Sevier 
County Home Guard. 

EAST TENNESSEE NATIONAL GUARD 1863 - 1864
The following ATCHLEY's who did NOT join the Union Army, but stayed 
home in the Sevier Co. Home Guard are the following. The ages given 
were the ages of the men in 1878. Most of the "Home Guard" 
during the Civil War were activated 20 Aug. 1863 and 01 Oct. 1863 
and served until 21 Feb. 1864. (REF:44)

After the Civil War, he married, at the age of 21 years, on 31 Dec. 
1864 (Based on [REF: #27) or [REF: #34 01 Jan. 1865, (Based on 
REF:#34 pg584) to the 17 year old Miss ELIZABETH Esther or Easter 
MAPLES; They had no children until their first born FRANCIS M. ATCHLEY 
in 1869, some 5 years later.

In the 1870 Census, Sevier Co., TN. (M-593, State Reel 1559, Pg 
404, F.G. 89) we find the 26 year old ENOCH, 3 ATCHLEY and Wife 
ESTHER E. (MAPLES) ATCHLEY, age 21 farming (No Land Value, with 
$425 Personal Value), with their first child MARY FRANCIS ATCHLEY, 
age 1 year. Esther E. (Maples) Atchley, little sister NANCY M. MAPLES 
age 10 (Dau of 1st Wife) was living with them. Their farm was 
next to (F.G. 88) WILLIAM C. LOY and adjoining (F.G. 90) Uncle the 
Rev. PLEASANT M. ATCHLEY and wife MARTHA JANE (THOMAS) ATCHLEY.

   Dau: MARY FRANCIS ATCHLEY, age 1
   S-I-L NANCY M. MAPLES, age 10 (Nancy died 2 years later 1872)

ESTHER E. (MAPLES) ATCHLEY' S widowed father GIDEON Mc MAPLES, 
married the young Widow MALISSA C. (ATCHLEY) LOW(E) in 1865; They 
can be found in this 1870 Census (F. G. 94 five visitation away) 
The 3 older daughters had married and lived with their own families, 
Son AARON T. MAPLES, died 1858, 3 years old and the remaining children 
of these two families were:
   NANCY M. MAPLES, age 10 (Dau of first wife) 
   Was living with Sister above. She died young, 1872 age 11
   GIDEON Mc MAPLES, Jr. age 7 (Son of first wife, later m. MOLLIE HENDERSON) 
   CHARLOTTE T. MAPLES, age 4 (Dau of 2nd marriage, later m. ANDREW J. KYKER as his 2nd Wife.) 
   MARY C. MAPLES, age 1 (Dau of 2nd marriage, later m. GEORGE ROMINES) 
   MEDORA LOW(E), age 12 (1st Dau of Malissa C. (Atchley) 
   and her 1st husband ABNER W. LOW(E) Was NOT living with this family.

In the 1880 Census, Sevier Co., TN. (T-9, State Reel 1278, Pg 
396, F.G. 158) we find the 36 year old ENOCH, 3 ATCHLEY and Wife 
ESTHER E. (MAPLES) ATCHLEY, age 30 farming Note dates of the following 
Childrens birth; Their farm was next to (F.G. 157) Father-In-Law GIDEON 
Mc MAPLES and 2nd Wife MALISSA C. (ATCHLEY) LOW MAPLES, adjoining 
them also (F.G. 159) was the family of WILKIN W. & R. MANERSRY HODGES 
family.

died on 07 Mar. 1910, at the age of 66 years, and on the 30th of Apr. 
1910 Census, Sevier Co., TN. (T-624, State Reel 1518, E.D. 141, 
Sheet 6A, F.G. 99) we find the 60 year old Widow ESTHER (MAPLES) 
ATCHLEY farming on the same farm with three of her remaining children 
at home; Their farm was next to (F.G. 98) JOHNTHAN MELL "HAMMER" 
ATCHLEY and Wife JULIA A. (ATCHLEY) ATCHLEY, adjoining them also (F.G. 
100) was the family of (Can not read). 
   Widow: ESTHER E. (MAPLES) ATCHLEY, age 60
   Son: AARON P. ATCHLEY,             age 24
   Dau: NANCY M. ATCHLEY,             age 30
   Son: WALTER ATCHLEY,               age 21

This was the last record found of this family; 


In [REF:#1.3] the "Atchley Family, 1971", 
Grandaughter Mrs. Olive (Atchley) Latham, on page 3 states: 
ESTHER E. (MAPLES) ATCHLEY; born on 06 May 1848, Sevier Co., 
Tn.; died 23 Nov. 1925, at the age of 77 Years, 6 Months and 17 days, 
Sevier Co., TN. Esther (Maples) Atchly was my Grandmother, 
and I can remember her well and as a child I always looked forward 
to going to her home for she would always treat us children with cookies 
or sweets.
