The following are the children of: BENJAMIN, 1 ATCHLEY and wives
1st Unknown (MAPLES) ATCHLEY & 2nd MARTHA (CHAMBERS) ATCHLEY:
FIRST MARRIAGE:

1. JOHN McCAMBELL ATCHLEY; (a.k.a. Mc Atchley")
(1st Son of Benjamin, Sr. & 1st Unknown (Maples) Atchley)
b. c1809; Sevier Co., TN.;
d. Unknown;
Buried Cemetery Location Unknown (to me)
He was a ordained Baptist Minister;
At the age of 21 years, he married (bfr 1831) in Sevier Co., TN. to his 1st.
Cousins, the 26 year old Miss LYDIA HAGGARD;
(1st d/o Rev. JAMES HAGGARD & MARY (ATCHLEY) HAGGARD;
(Mrs. Mary (Atchley) Haggard & Benjamin,1 Atchley were brother & sister..prs)
b. about 1804, [REF:#1.6. pg32] in Sevier Co. TN.;
d. Unknown;
Buried Cemetery Location Unknown (to me)
They had at least Seven Children born to this Union:
   1.1 1st Son: JAMES ATCHLEY;     b. 1831
   1.2 1st Dau: POLLY ATCHLEY;     b. 1834
   1.3 2nd Son: NOAH ATCHLEY;      b. 1840

   1.6 4th Son: PLEASANT ATCHLEY;  b. 1846
   1.7 3rd Dau: MARY ATCHLEY;      b. 1849

Possible Record Problem!
In [REF:#1.6 pg108 Maud Horn, had No listing of this family, she stated "John McCampbell Atchley was an ordained Baptist Minister, highly respected and loved. I did NOT locate any of his descendants."
The early records of J. Mc. ATCHLEY are pretty sketchy, he was NOT listed in the first 1830 Census, living with his parents family, nor in the 1840 Census for Sevier Co.,
TN. The first real record is the 1850 Census for McMinn Co., TN. which list's a
JOHN Mc ATCHLEY age 28 b. 1822 TN; Occupation Baptist Minister, with a $300 value farm;
Wife: LYDIA ATCHLEY, age 27 b. 1823 TN
and Seven Children;
1.1 1st Son: JAMES ATCHLEY; a19y b. 1831 TN
1.2 1st Dau: POLLY ATCHLEY; a16y b. 1834 TN
1.3 2nd Son: NOAH ATCHLEY; a19y b. 1840 TN
1.4 3rd Son: JORDAN ATCHLEY; a08y b. 1842 TN
1.5 2nd Dau: SARAH ATCHLEY; a05y b. 1845 TN
1.6 4th Son: PLEASANT ATCHLEY; a04y b. 1846 TN
1.7 3rd Dau: MARY ATCHLEY; a01y b. 1849 TN
Also LYDIA (HAGGARD) ATCHLEY'S father JAMES HAGGARD age 66 b. TN was living with them; her brother NOAH H. & Wife SARAH JANE (RANDOLPH) HAGGARD were living at the adjoining farm. Although the age's listed are NOT correct this is no doubt this subject JOHN McCAMBLE ATCHLEY's family...prs
Rev. JOHN McCAMPBEL ATCHLEY, age 26 on the 14th of Nov. 1835, sold 50 acres of land to his Brother-in-Law JACKSON HAGGARD, age 19 for consideration of 50 dollars. (John Mc Atchley was the husband of Sister Lydia (Haggard) Atchley. This property was part of the Sarrett's Kellum Crk. Farm which was passed over to son Ezekiel L. Haggard, later (1859) to his Step-Father James D. Sarrett and then in 1865 to Son Samuel H. Sarrett, which was part of his Estate when he died in 1890.

Maud Horn stated [REF:#1.6 pg148 "I submit the above list of 23 children as being the largest set of children of which I have ever known to have been born to Caucasian parents. In a letter that JAMES, 4 ATCHLEY, age 75 on 13th March 1908 wrote to a sister and which letter I have seen, he stated thar he was had eighty-odd Grandchildren and twenty-one Great-Grandchildren did not know the exact number." From the records compiled of the 23 children, four died before their first year; One died before his eleventh year; four died in their 20's; Two died in their 30's and Two died in their 40's, leaving only ten children living to maturity. From the time EMMA (GRAY) ATCHLEY, married at 16 years of age in 1853 and until the last child was born in Aug. of 1881, at the age of 43 years, she was carrying a child for 189 months of the 324 months, during the 27 year span. In one case 13th child Charles A. Atchley, was born on 26 of Feb. 1869 and the 14th child son Newton D. Atchley was born 9 months and 22 days later in the same year on 18 Dec. 1869.
