The Osgood Cemetery was right behind our house
growing up in Baytown, Texas. I thought someone might not know where
it was at, so I took a trip by there to take pictures. As a young
girl (late 50's & early 60's), I remember more graves there than what
I found on my trip. I recall baby graves with temp markers when we
would go looking through the cemetery. We children would remark to
each other about so many baby graves and how sad it was. There were
no temporary markers there with baby names when I recently made my
trip there to take pictures.
I was told by an Osgood family member, that still
resides in Baytown, that the land (total of an acre) was donated to
his grandfather by the Confederate Army because of his service in the
army. Back then there were not a lot of cemeteries around and Mr.
Osgood gave 1/2 acre to the black families in the area so they would
have somewhere to bury their dead.
