The records in the Georgia Archives list the nickname of this company as the Hope Hill Rangers, but these are secondary records. An examination of the records shows that the company mustered at Pope Hill. There is no site within Jefferson County named Hope Hill. Therefore the nickname Hope Hill Rangers is most likely a transcription error.

Captain Wells' company of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry was consolidated with Company K in January 1865. Information from a letter written by Capt. William G. Wells on 6 March 1865 and a company muster roll dated 22 February 1865 now in the possession of Mrs. Golda Wells Stevens, Huntington, WV. There were 29 men in Wells' company when it attached to Co. K. These men were primarily from Johnson County, Kentucky.
It appears that A. A. Hunt was given authority to raise a regiment of partisan rangers to be known as the 2nd Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers, and F. M. Nix was appointed as commanding officer of the 16th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers. Evans' Confederate Military History explicitly states that the 2nd (Hunt's) Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers and the 16th (Nix's) Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers were both part of Gen. Morgan's command early in the war. The compiled service records show that A. A. Hunt was the original commander of the 2nd Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers and F. M. Nix was the original commander of the 16th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers. This is supported by the O.R. (Ser. IV, volume 2, pg. 82). In the fall of 1862 the 15th and 16th Battalions and the 2nd Regiment of Georgia Rartisan Rangers were reorganized. It appears that the 2nd Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers was consolidated into the 16th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers (later known as the 16th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Cavalry) with Col. Hunt assuming command. The 13th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry was organized by increasing the 16th Battalion Georgia Cavalry to regimental strength and changing the designation in May 1864. The regiment, as a part of Vaughn's Brigade, was disbanded at Christiansburg, VA on 12 April 1865, by Gen. John Echols. A group of 23 men under the command of Maj. Edward Y. Clarke refused to surrender, and moved into NC to became a part of the final escort for Confederate President Jefferson Davis. This group surrendered in Georgia in May 1865.
