1st Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

So many of the Georgia Partisan Ranger units are listed as having been the 1st Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers at some point during their evolution that it is impossible to determine which claim is true.  Many records are also inexact as to whether the referenced unit is the 1st Battalion or the 1st Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers.  The 2nd and 15th Battalions, the 2nd Regiment, and Smith's Legion, Georgia Partisan Rangers are all listed as originally being the 1st Battalion.

1st Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers

See Smith's Legion, Georgia Partisan Rangers, the 6th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry and the 65th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry.  In some documents this unit is referred to as the 1st Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers.

2nd Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

See the 19th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Cavalry.

2nd Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers

This regiment does not appear to have served at regimental strength. The Atlanta Journal  (23 March 1901, pg. 2) lists its strength at six companies. See the 13th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry for more information on the 15th and 16th Battalions and the 2nd Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers. See also the 62nd Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers for additional information on the 16th Battalion and 2nd Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers.

15th Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

See the 62nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry.

16th Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

This battalion does not appear to have served at battalion strength. See the 13th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry.

19th Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

20th Battalion, Georgia Partisan Rangers

See the 20th Battalion Georgia Volunteer Cavalry.

62nd Regiment, Georgia Partisan Rangers

See the 62nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry. The compiled service records indicate that this regiment was also known as the 2nd Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers; however, the muster rolls for this unit do not support this. The main reason why this unit is listed as having been the 2nd Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers is because an organizational record from the 16th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers is included with the records of the 62nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry. Because Col. A. A. Hunt, commanding officer of the 2nd Regiment Partisan Rangers, became the commanding officer of the 16th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers it appears that he was assumed to have commanded the 62nd Regiment Georgia Volunteer Cavalry, but his service records do not bare this out.
