[NI133446] Henry SWARTZ b 1770 m Elizabeth Anna RIBLET d/o Bartholomew RIBLET; she was b 1776 near Allentown, Lehigh Co., PA. Henry & Elizabeth SWARTZ lived in Bedford Co., PA probably by 1800. According to family story, Henry & Elizabeth had 8 daus & 4 sons. Henry & Elizbeth SWARTZ & 5 cldn moved to Wayne Co., OH 1831. Although they had 12 cldn total which grew to adult hood, I can only name the following cldn: Robert SWARTZ b 1816 & William R. SWARTZ b 1820 Bloody Run, Bedford Co., PA. Robert m Susanna KITCHEN 1837, Wayne Co., OH & William m Elizabeth BONEWITZ 1842, Wayne Co, OH. I feel certain William was probably the youngest.

[NI133447] William R. SWARTZ b Bedford Co., PA, Hopewell Twp., near a place called Bloody Run, Feb 27 1820, & d Oct 23 1908, 88 y 7 m & 26 ds. He came with his parents to OH, 1831, & settled upon the farm on which he d. All the yrs of his life from early boyhood, except 18 mos, were spent on the old farm. His father & mother d on the same farm. Father SWARTZ frequently spoke of the marvelous changes that have taken place during his lifetime. They moved to the OH home in a wagon as that was the only means of conveyance at that time. They found here in those early dys only woods that were almost unbroken, there being only 2 openings between the SWARTZ farm & Wooster. On the dy after their arrival they bargained for the farm, & in 2 wks from that time they were living in their new house, a house of good size & substantially built of hew logs & puncheon floor. His mother & 2 sisters put the puncheons in place & the plaster on the lower part while men worked at the upper part. Jun 9 1845, He m Elizabeth BONEWITZ. To this union were b 8 cldn, 4 sons & 4 daus, Mary E., Henry E., Matilda F., Rebecca A., Solomon E., Sarah J., Robert A. & Daniel R., he dying in 1894. The same yr that he ws m he was happily converted to God & united with the Ch.. All through the subsequent yrs of his life he remained a faithful & consistent memb. Abt 12 yrs ago he was a victim of paralysis, & for 6 yrs he was unable to leave his house except as he was helped out. 1 yr ago last Aug he was stricken again & rendered entirely helpless. During all those 14 weary mos of helplessness, his faith shone bright & clear, & he was content to suffer - will of God. His dau Mary devoted herself constantly to him & his son Frank, who lives but a few rods from his father's home, did not leave him a single night without his presence & watchcare. To William SWARTZ death had no sting, & the grave has gotten no victory. Beside the 8 cldn, 33 gcldn & 22 ggcldn. The funeral occurred Sun afternoon, Oct 25 1908, Methodist Ch., West Salem, pastor C.D. Patterson, conducting services. Bur. in the village Cem.
