[NI190174] Herald of Truth, Vol XLII # 9 Mar 2 1905 pgs 71 & 72. A SAD ACCIDENT. While Christian Kaufman, s/o Bro John J Kaufman, & Ed Blough were digging coal in mine near Davidsville, Somerset Co, Pa, which is owned by Bro Josiah Blough, a large pc of slate fell on them, crushing out Kaufman's life instantly. Blough was almost completely covered, but was rescued from his perilous position by another man working in same mine. He was not seriously injured. The subject of this fatal accident was a bright, promising young man, having reached the age of 21y 11m 28d. He had many friends, especially among the young people, with whom he was a favorite. The saddest feature abt the circumstance is that he had never publicly accepted Jesus as his Savior. This should serve as a loud call, warning us all of the uncertainty of life & the certainty of death, when we must all go to give an account of the deeds, whether prepared or unprepared. May God use this sad dispensation of his providence in calling lost ones to him & warning those who live carelessly in this world; may he especially bless & comfort the deeply bereaved friends. Funeral servs at Kaufman MH conducted by John Blosser, Rawson, OH, & L A Blough & Alex Weaver of home congregation.
