If I have documentation, I've listed it in the center column. Otherwise, treat this as hearsay. Someone emailed me that info, so I plopped the numbers in.

I am a poor college kid without the funds to purchase documentation or memberships, so this information is 90% off other websites. Thus, some information clashes. I have tried to present all gathered data, no matter how erroneous. Found an interesting article in a series published in the Claiborne Co TN newspaper, "The Tazewell-New Tazewell Observer" This weekly newspaper was published on Wednesdays. The author of the articles was Peter Graham FULKERSON, but the material was not organized and published until 1979 by his granddaughter, Katherine DYER. I don't have Peter Graham FULKERSON's birth or death dates. (Can anyone help out here with some census info?) Think he was born in the 1830's, and became a physician. When he talks of the early pioneers he either knew them when they were quite old, or he just knew about them. There are errors and omissions here, but I guess we need to look at all the info we can find. The series is divided into three headings: "Organization of the County", "Recollections" and "Early Settlers". The last section has been indexed because of it's genealogical value. The Claiborne Co Public Library, P O Box 139, Tazewell TN 37825 has a collection of these articles. (address from 1988!) This is what he said in "Early Settlers": " Frederick BOLINGER came to this county from Penn. about 1780. He married a WEAVER who was Irish. His children were: Jacob who married Hannah JENKINS; Isaac; Frederick; Henry; Jessee; David."
Madison County Musings--Winter 1992 p.210-11.

Saint Peter's Cemetery
In Aug 1857 and Feb 1860, Frederick Bolinger obtained land patents to land located in Sec. 13, Twp 15, Range 26; and Sec. 24, twsp 15, Range 26. This was only a part of the land that the Bolinger family owned near this period, which is located 1 1/2 miles North of Witter... Frederick Bolinger's son-in-law, Samuel Dunn, was postmaster of a post-office known as "Saint Peter" and was appointed on 1 Jul 1840 and continued until 22 Jun 1841, at which time the post office was dicontinued. The Bolinger family settled in Madison County about 1834 and many descendants remain today. There are approximately 100 graves located in this cemetery, although most of the stones are gone, and what stones remain are broken. There is no fence around this cemetery, and it is located in the middle of a pasture. Some people refer to this cemetery as Bolinger Cemetery. It is believed that this cemetery was probably started in the 1830's or 1840's and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Madison Co. There are two other cemeteries within 2-3miles of St.Peter's, however, the other two do not seem to be as old as this one. Witter Cemetery (aka Smith Chapel)'s first burial was in 1872, and the first known grave in Capt. Smith Cemetery is around 1850. The last known people to be buried here were members of the Kennan family who owned the land in the early 1900's.

Following is a list of tombstones that are still located in the cemetery and have names on them that can be read. All of these stones are knocked over and many are broken.

Buried in a stone crypt, which extends about 2-3 feet above the ground are:

Frederick Bolinger, Sr.(b-1760-70, d-fall of 1843
Elizabeth Weaver Bolinger (b-1760-70, died 1840-1843)
(this stone crypt doesn't have names or dates on it, however, it is known that this husband and wife are buried in it. The top of the crypt is broken in)

Frederick Bolinger Polly, wife of Frederick Bolinger
b. 19 March 1796 b. June 18, 1802
d. 9 June 1864 d. July 3, 1866
Gone to Heaven Gone to Heaven
Holy Bible Holy Bible

Frederick and Polly Bolinger are buried at the foot of the crypt, to the east, however, their tombstones have been knocked over and the exact location of their graves are unknown. Their tombstones are now laying on top of the crypt.
