Galen Cave [Parents] [image] 1, 2, 3, 4 was born 5, 6, 7 on 15 Oct 1800 in VA or NC. He died 8 on 23 Jun 1851 in Lone Jack, Jackson co, MO and was buried 9 in Lone Jack Cem; Lone Jack, Jackson co, MO. Galen married 10 Susanah "Susan" Easley on 5 Jan 1828 in Surry co, NC.

pg 4 of, "The Story of Lone Jack";
"Warham Easley, Galen Cave and John Snow, all three of whom were brothers-in-law and had come indirectly from North Carolina --. This was in 1836 or '37"; Cave entered the land on which the "lone tree" stood, but someway it came into the possession of Easly.";

From obituary of Jessie M. Cave, son of Bartlett Bird Cave;
"Mr. Cave's grandfather, Galen Cave, a native of Virginia, came to Jackson county, (MO) in 1835. He entered several hundred acres of land where stood the large black jack oak tree for which the village of Lone Jack, (MO) was named.";

" B.B.Cave's father, Galen, received a government grant of land at Lone Jack, Missouri on 9 June 1835."

1840 & 1850 Census Index for MO, Jackson county, has; Gilan - 1840 - no twp listed; Gailon - 1850 - Van Buren Twp; also on 1850 slave schedule for MO, Jackson county, Van Buren Twp - Gadon.

Jim Cave has added note that occupation: cabinet maker;
Also, Galen's will was probaated in Lone Jack, Jackson county, MO, 19 Jul 1851.

Daughter Mary's obituary says, "She was the last survivor of a family of fourteen children, most of whom died in infancy."

John S Cave [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 was born 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 about 1803/1818 in NC or VA. He died 12, 13, 14 on 6 Sep 1863 in near Lone Jack, Jackson co, MO and was buried 15 in near Lone Jack, Jackson co, MO. John married 16, 17, 18 Nancy Jean Hunter on 6 Sep 1836 in Jackson co, MO.

"Mrs. Cave's husband was one of six men who were massacred on the 6th day of Sept. 1863 by a Company of KS Redlegs, belonging to Col. Clark's regiment. The brutal killing occurred near Lone Jack and among the number were Benjamin Potter, 75 yrs old, and Andrew Owsley, a boy of 17. They had taken no part in the war, but were known to be southern sympathizers. All the men were preparing to leave the country in order to comply with the infamous Order # 11.";

"John S. Cave -- asked permission to pray. Whether it was granted or not, we do not know. He had a son in the Confederate Army in Arkansas, a wife and six children at home and a son yet unborn. He must have died in agony of anxiety for them. Whether he uttered a prayer of not, God must have watched over his helpless family ----- ."

Article written by larry Sullivan, states that the day John S. Cave was murdered by Union troops (6 Sept 1863) was also the day of his 27th wedding anniversary.

In Joan (Chiles) Eiken's book, "Order # 11", pg 15; It is written about Nancy (Hunter) Cave, widow of John S. Cave;
" --, God must have watched over his (John S. Cave's) helpless family, who for over a year were sheltered in an abandoned house near Dover, Missouri. It was there that his son was born, Nov 6 (1863). The widow assumed many unaccustomed responsibilities and found many kind neighbors. The family raised a garden and on one occasion the mother and daughter, with the help of their dog, killed a wild hog to supplement their meat supply."

"In 1834, Mrs Cave,---, came to Missouri with her parents and located in this county,---"; Nancy and John were the parents of ten children, six surviving her death; "Mrs Cave also leaves 47 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild."
