They appear to have moved with brother Benjamin Allen Skinner, his family, and their mother Penelope Ann Albritton (widow of Benjamin Russell Skinner). Mary Jane died about [1851?] after the birth of her fourth child John Albritton Skinner. The infant was sent to live with Vernon or Albritton relatives in Navarro Co, TX, but died about a year later. The other three children apparently went to live with relatives in Fannin Co (Texas) since Abijah couldn't care for them by himself.
"Abijah left TX sometime after his wife died and is known to have remarried in 1885 in Meridian, Lauderdale Co, MS. He must have carried the kids with him there or sent for them, because some TX Skinner family history reports the youngest boy William Lee didn't like his new stepmother and went back to live in Fannin Co. TX either with his aunt and uncle Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Patillo, or ( as reported by some) with his step-uncle Trenton A. Patillo (Thomas' brother)."
