"John was the son of a wealthy widow. He came to North Carolina at the age or 19 (abt 1780) He enlisted as a private in Jones company; 10th regiment, North Carolina. He bought land on Rocky Creek in 1790; around 1780 and 1795 he received 4 grants from state land in Wilkes and Iredale counties (NC). Arrington Creek, along the Buffalo River in Arkansas was named after John. Everyone called him 'Uncle John';
There was a letter, unclaimed, for John Arrington in Newton county, Arkansas in 1820 but he was found on the 1820 Wilkes county census in North Carolina; John reportedly settled in Arkansas on the upper Petit Jean between 1818 and 1820."
