" Richard Mitchell "was a mere boy when his parents moved to Georgia." After a brief time of being "in the mercantile business at old Hartford, Pulaski county, Georgia" Richard "gave up this enterprise and moved to Thomas county, Georgia, buying "land near his father's estate, and engaged in the pursuit of agriculture." He owned "a number of slaves" and was "a member of the old Whigs".
In the 1830's he was elected "to the state legislature" as "a representative from Pulaski county," Georgia.
