1. HISKI
HISKI is a database about church books, called The Black Books because of the black covers. The Finnish Genealogy Association has about 600 persons that voluntarily copy them into the Internet. Some FAQ.

When will my parish be in the net?
We do not know, as all work is voluntary.

In which order are the books copied?
There is no order as the work is voluntary.

In which program is HISKI made?
There are several DOS Windows most often Access.

Who has written the parish X?
The project manager knows and everyone copying has the right to tell if they want to.

Why is some information missing in my parish?
Because the work is half done.

Is information in HISKI correct?
HISKI is a database and not original papers; they have not been double-checked.

What are "The Black Books"?
All books wee copied from 1924 to 1971 all information to 1850. These copies are in books with black covers. There are 300 000 pages.

What is included in HISKI?
All Finnish parishes in the world. The whole of Finland is covered but even Baltic countries, Stockholm and Petersburg are included. Later there will be put in 200 parishes in USA. At this time only Lutheran books are copied, The rest will be done later.

What are the limiting years?
HISKI has information from before 1850. Finnish law says that information is official 25 years after a person’s death.

What is the greatest problem with HISKI?
The information is put out in the net without control.

Why use HISKI because we have the Mormon (www.familysearch.com) archives
The Mormons only have marriage and baptism, HISKI has also "buried "and "moved" records
The Mormons do not have Scandinavian letters (Å,Ä,Ö) and not patronymic names (fathers names)?
