General Notes: Walter Hunter came from Campelltown, a good-living man who was a conscientious objector, abhorring violence and war.To avoid conscription and still be a miner, he made for Cobbinshaw, the farthest safe place he could find. On thelast lap of his journey he slept overnight in the unfinished "Happy Land" (now Northfield Cottages in West Calder).His wife's family name seems to have been Halbert, a name that crops up from then on. Noted events in his life were: • Occupation: Coal Miner. 1 Walter married Susan HALBERT, daughter of John HALBERT and Jane HUNTER, on 11 Oct 1867 in Armadale, Linlithgow. (Susan HALBERT was born about 1849.) |
