In an effort to make sense of the many spellings of the Rawls / Rawles / Ralls / Rolls etc families in the area who moved freely about the surrounding villages I have assembled these extracts from the PRs in the area in order to make it easer to find ancestors who may not show up with the expected surname. They are mostly from listings by the OPC project as posted elseware on the internet.
I am also
assembling a combined sortable database of area BMDs (in MS XL Spreadsheet)
which Raw***, Ral*** , Rol*** researchers may find helpful, it is freely
available on request by Email.
The records for Bere Regis / Milbourne
Stileham and Bloxworth are not available on line and are the only major gap in
my database, transcripts of the Rawles etc listings for these parishes would be
welcome.
Both projects are a work in progress and will be added to as I find and extract the records.
In transcribing these records I have found that some PRs show entries starting in April or May and ending on Feb or March for a particular year, it is not clear if this is then, the correct year for some of those entry’s. In checking several different transcriptions of the same records I have found that the most disagreement seems to be in the surname spellings, some of which do not seem to be simple transcription errors, Ralls to Rawls for instance. This reinforces my belief that most of these families are in fact related at some point.
