These
pages are the result of years of research into our family history and have
been placed here for the benefit of fellow researchers. They currently
contain over 24,300 names. The direct ancestral lines lead back to
Cardigan, Glamorgan and Pembroke in Wales - Cornwall, Kent, Lincolnshire,
Norfolk, Staffordshire and Westmorland in England - Fifeshire and Perthshire
in Scotland - Cavan in Ireland - and Lusatia in Germany. All of these people
were "free settlers", they came to Australia of their own volition, albeit
under widely varying circumstances. I am almost disappointed with this
discovery,
it is fashionable to have a convict in your family tree in Australia. "Aaah
well - such is life"!
We are not completely free of skeletons in the cupboard however, as it appears that one of them may have jumped ship in Melbourne to create a new life in the colony and eventually came to a rather sticky end. Another was a "remittance man", banished to Australia for dispersing the family fortune on race horses, gambling and creatures of the night. Every care has been taken to make the data as accurate as possible, but please keep in mind that it is ongoing research, that any feedback will be appreciated and that the information contained herein is often only as good as that which I am given. If any errors, alterations or updates are known to you, I would appreciate your taking the time to send them via the communication links provided. If you find a relation or have any query, do contact me, as there is much more data on file (i.e. - census, occupation, cause of death, shipping, etc.,) which I will not place on this site out of respect for the privacy of living family members. This site's database is uploaded to WorldConnect and GenCircles and follows all privacy restrictions for individuals who are possibly living and born in the last ninety years, as stated by those sites' privacy policies. These privacy policies may be viewed on their respective sites, if you so wish. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have already contacted me with alterations, updates and/or corrections. In so doing, they have made a remarkable contribution to the accuracy of this database. Please do not hesitate to contact me with suggestions for improvement.
