Wallace RAYMOND, Alonzo RAYMOND, George BARBER lots in Plain City

Robert Raymond, descendent of Alonzo Pearis RAYMOND on 8 April 2004 obtained this map of early Plain City settlers from Rachael McKinnon, a descendent of John CARVER. Rachael recalled that she had obtained this map at a Carver reunion some time about 1985/1986. The text on the map reads:

Map of the City: At last year's reunion, a family member brought along with him a sketch of the original plat of PC with the names of the Founders. This shows where everybody lived after they built homes and settled in (remember the first year, the Carvers lived in a sort of "cave" carved out of the clay hillside on the west end of the new town). You might want to take a minute or two in August to drive about and check out the "hometown" since things aren't otherwise labeled nowadays.

By the way, the person who drew this map was looking South. The Carver home was North of the public square.

The map identifies "Wallace W Raymond / 1859" near the top right of the map. "Alonzo Raymond / later / settled" and "George Barber / later / settled" are side-by-side near the bottom right. John Carver, 1859, has two lots to the north and to the northeast of Alonzo's lot.

If I understand historic and current maps correctly, Alonzo's property would have been on the block northwest of the intersection of 2500 North and 4425 West, and would have occupied the southeast quarter of that block. George BARBER's lot would have been the southwest quarter of that block. Wallace RAYMOND's lot was on the block northeast of the intersection of 2275 North 4500 West, the southwest quarter. John CARVER build the first cabin in Plain City; it has been restored and sits behind the LDS church house at 4630 W 2150 N.
