The society has a collection of local artifacts in a restored 18th-century farmhouse and a 19th-century barn in a meticulously landscaped setting. Exhibits change annually. Activities include opening day festivities in May with a kite flying contest, a harvest festival in late September and pumpkin-carving contest in October.

The Henry Sheldon Museum serves as the collecting institution for Middlebury history as well as Addison County history. The collection housed in the 1829 Judd-Harris House highlights the region's early settlers and important military, industrial and agricultural past. The Research Center contains thousands of manuscripts, photographs and ephemera. An active program of workshops, lectures, events and other activities is offered throughout the year.
