General Notes: Husband - Bert Dee (Pete) Gooch
Bert Dee (Pete) Gooch was a son of George Gooch, and a great nephew of William Elijah Gooch.
Pete Gooch founded the Gooch Packing Company in Abilene, Texas. Started in the mid to late 1930's, the business was very successful. By the 1970's, the Gooch Packing Company was one of the major business's in Abilene, employing over 500 people. It distributed meat products, in bulk and processed form, to many counties in the north central, northwest, central, and southwest regions of Texas. The trade mark for their products was "Gooch Blue Ribbon". In the late 1970's, the economy in Texas started a decline, due to a drop in oil prices. The area around Abilene was hard hit. In an effort to keep the company going, and expand his market, Pete sold stock in the company to a northeastern investment concern. By the early 1980's, the investment company had gained control of the company. The economic conditions in Texas continued to decline, and in the mid 1980's the investment company decided that it was too risky to continue operations. The Gooch Packing Company was closed down.
