Your information is very helpful. I had seen some of it, but not all of it. I will check into it further, but I just want to send a quick reply to awknowledge receipt. Yes, it is quite possible that the Jessie Gooch who married Bessie Fannin was my grandfather. I have been trying to get more details about that. It is an interesting possibility that she may have died not long after they married. If that is the case, then he probably married again, to my mother's birth mother.

Stanley Dean Phillips Sr. died January 13, 2013 between 11 AM and 12 PM at the Rolling Plains Community Hospital in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas. He had been ill with flu like symptoms for about two weeks. He apparently suffered a major heart attack in the morning of January 13, 2013. He has a history of cardiovascular disease, going back about twenty years before his death.

OBITUARY: McCoy Funeral Home, Sweetwater, Texas
Stanley D. Phillips, Sr., 73, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater. He was a long time Sweetwater resident.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Reverend Chris Stephens officiating.
Family member will be Pallbearers.
Mr. Phillips was born on June 12, 1939 in Brownwood, Texas. He married Ruth H. Basedow on June 18, 1960 in Greens, New York. Stan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for family, life, and friends will never be forgotten. He will be missed dearly by all that knew him.
Survivors include: Wife- Ruth Phillips; Sons- Stan Phillips, Jr., Stewart Philips, Steve Phillips and wife Andrea, Casey Phillips and wife Tammy, Corey Phillips and wife Cheri; Grandsons- Brandon Phillips, Bryan Phillips and wife Olivia, Bryson Phillips, Storme Phillips and wife Ashley, Kaden Phillips, Cole Phillips, Briar Phillips; Granddaughters- Demi Pawzun and husband Eric, Elizabeth Phillips; Great \endash granddaughters- Rhylie Underwood, Ashtyn Gonzales, Addisyn Phillips, Laekin Rivera; Great \endash grandson- Remington Phillips; Brother- Dalton Phillips and wife Kathy of Killeen, TX.

Military Service - about November, 1956 - June, 1960: Recruit Training Command, San Diego, California; Communications Technician (CT) Apprenticeship Training School, Imperial Beach, California; U.S. Navy Communications Station, Adak, Alaska; NATO/NSA Branch Communications Complex, Bremerhaven, West Germany; USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) - Mediterranean; USS Saratoga (CVA-60) - Mediterranean.
Stanley joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old in 1956. I do not know the exact date. I do know that he was a "kiddie cruiser", which means that he was to be discharged from active duty before his 21st birthday. He went to Navy Boot Camp in San Diego. His Company Commander's last name was Henry. After Boot Camp, he went to the Communication Technician Class A School in Imperial Beach, Calfornia. He was then stationed at the Communications Station in Adak, Alaska for about a year. After that, he went to serve at the Communications Compex in Bremerhaven, Germany. While there, he had temporary special assignments aboard the aircraft carriers USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT (CVA-42) and the USS SARATOGA (CVA-60), which were operating with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea. He was discharged from active duty with the Navy in June of 1960, from the New York/Brooklyn Navy Yard.
