General Notes: Husband - Henry Gooch

Henry Gooch (abt 1628 - abt 1705)

He came to America before 1650, probably as a soldier in the British Army.

It appears that he married a lady named Millicent Kinsey shortly after his arrival in America. They had one son, and they named him William. Millicent died between 1655 and 1660. He married again, some time around 1660, to a lady named Jane Jones. They had four children; Henry, Rowland, James, and Elizabeth.

He purchased land in York County, Virginia around 1650, possibly in partnership with his brother, William, and several others.

He served as a member of the Virginia Governors Council in about 1657.

He was a planter and citizen soldier. He served as High Sheriff of York County, Virginia for many years. In times of crisis, he served as an officer in the British Army to command militia troops. He participated in early colonial wars against the Indians. He fought at Bacon's Rebellion. He achieved rank of Lieutinent Colonel in the British Army.

Chuck,

Your information is very helpful. I had seen some of it, but not all of it. I will check into it further, but I just want to send a quick reply to awknowledge receipt. Yes, it is quite possible that the Jessie Gooch who married Bessie Fannin was my grandfather. I have been trying to get more details about that. It is an interesting possibility that she may have died not long after they married. If that is the case, then he probably married again, to my mother's birth mother.

Thanks much for the info, and I will be back in touch after I analyze all this.

God bless/
Ray

>Could the above Jesse Gooch, who married Bessie Fannen on 27 Dec 1901, be your grandfather? And is this Bessie the same Bessie Ann Gooch who died 3 Aug 1903? Could the Infant Son Gooch who died 13 Jul 1903 have been their child? If so, maybe Bessie died from complications arising from childbirth. Could your mother's mother have been Jesse's second wife?
