William J. (Bill) Jones was the husband of Maggie Gooch, and a brother-in-law of William Elijah Gooch.
General Notes: Wife - Mary Pauline Gooch
Mary Pauline (Molly) Gooch (1858 - 1943)
Mary Pauline (Molly) Gooch was a sister of William Elijah Gooch.
Molly Gooch talked about her days as a girl in Mississippi. She spent much of her time with the Olivers (her grandparents) as a girl. They lived near one of the main roads. After the war was lost, that road was traveled by Confederate soldiers, trying to make their way home. Many of these men were filthy, lice infested, half starved and demoralized. Some of them were crippled or sick. There was great sympathy for them. The Olivers and other families made fires by that road. They would have simple hot foods for the men to eat. There would be big pots of water on the fires, and the women would wash the men's clothes for them. Molly remembered being there, helping those men, and listening to their stories as they sat around huddled in blankets.
Molly married in the 1870's or 1880's, and moved to Texas with her husband. It is believed that she was the first of the family to move to Texas.
