William Gooch (abt 1818 - abt 1890); son of Thomas Gooch.
There is some confusion about who the father of William Martin Gooch really was. One version of the family tree holds that he was the son of a Dr. Thomas Gooch. While the date of birth seems wrong, this could be William Martin Gooch. That will have to be sorted out. At this point, I am assuming that this William Gooch was a cousin to William Martin Gooch, until I prove otherwise.
There is a possibility that this William Gooch was born earlier than old records seem to indicate. The family tradition seemed to be to give the name William to one of the first born sons. In this case, it seems odd that one of the first born sons was not given the name William. If he was born around 1800, it is possible that this William Gooch was the father of William Martin Gooch, which would make William Martin Gooch the grandson of Thomas Gooch.
